    I mentioned this story to my neighbors daughter who is an ER nurse. She said she and most of her co workers keep reference stuff on their Ipod touch. it is small and holds tons of stuff at your finger tips. Obviously not the answer to everything, but another resource

    Along those lines - does anybody here use Kindle or one of the other electronic books. That's probably another way to store a large volume of information that is easily transported.

    I just learned about them a few weeks ago and planned on looking into it when I got home...I forgot! Thanks for the reminder.

    I have the NOOK from Barnes & Noble.
    Resisted the idea behind anything that's not a book but I LOVE this thing. The hubby and I keep fighting over it.

    I have not used a Kindle, but a few months ago started to use an Acer netbook computer for work and home. It is a tiny little thing, mine has a 10.5 inch screen with 6 hour battery. When coupled with a docking station does everything I need. Plus it is almost hand size. I store lots of stuff, books, downloads of stuff folks share here etc, and even some workstuff

    An unfortunate aftermath is also the number of orphans. As you see in the quote below, their number of orphans pre event were huge. If we had a large scale disaster, how would we handle the issue? Do we have an individual responsibility ? Have you given this any thought? Regretably, I have not, but I know I would be eternally grateful if someone took care of my young ones if needed.

    "Before the quake, 380,000 children in Haiti were classified as orphans, Landrieu said, quoting figures from the United Nations, which defines an orphan as someone who has lost one parent."

    Quality of medical care will be impacted tremendously. Even with hign quality medical caregivers, lack or sparsity of medical equipment and medicines will degrade quality of care;

    "The doctors, who worked at the Boston Medical Center, quickly learned that when you have no technology -- not even the simplest blood test -- you have to make medical decisions in an entirely different way."
