    Default A file knife

    Inspired by Crash's awesome file knives I decided to make one out of a Nicholson file I had laying around. I didn't anneal the file I just tempered in the oven for 2hrs at 425 degrees until I got a nice even straw color and then turned off the oven and cracked it open and let it get to room temp. I ground it out and dipped in cold water after every other pass on the grinder so it would not get over heated and mess up the temper. It took a bit longer than an annealed blade would. I had a carbide drill bit and drilled through the hard steel for the pins. I then attachedt the cocobolo scales which still need a bit of sanding an teak oil treatment. I put a convexed grind on this one. Here it is.

    You guys are crazy good.

    Oh, yeah, I had 12 files laying around so I threw some knives together today.

    It would probably take me a month to make that knife and then everyone would ask what it was supposed to be. Great looking as usual! Very nice.

    Rick, I was thinking the same thing.
    I want to do it, just don't have the know how yet.

    BUt if I am not careful, I just might learn something about this knife making stuff

    Daaaang, Could you imagine a slick set of knives like that for the kitchen. The cocobolo looks perfect.

    It looks fake, doesn't? It's so good it looks like a poured epoxy. It has a wet look to it and the grain almost has a look of depth to it.

    I guess I need to get back in the shop and make a couple more knives.
    1. If it's in your kit and you don't know how to use it....It's useless.
    2. If you can't reach your kit when you need it....Its useless.

    That is a REALLY good knife. That design looks so multipurpose, it would be great in a sheath or in a Kitchen Drawer!!
    I only hope I can be 1/4 the knifemaker you guys are.
