Why thank you, kind sir.
Anyone heard of the book Wilderness Survival for dummies? I´m thinking of buying it.
There was a scorpion in my sleeping bag once. A Bark Scorpion, of course. Those are the times when you really need to keep on practicing that habit of shaking out your sleeping bag before you crawl...
I have to admit, I´m a little disappointed. I was kinda thinking that there was a series where a group of people were set out into the wild and forced to survive for a fixed number of days. I think...
Which SAS book would that be? I´ve seen the handbook, the guide, and some other ones...
what book(s) would you reccomend for these different zones? Coast
Desert
Forest
Arctic
All around book (a bit of everything)
thanks =D
I was looking at some multi-tools today and I saw one made by Ozark Trail. Is that a good brand? It comes with 12 uses: Knife, small, medium, and large flat screwdriver, bottle cap opener, awl, wire...
Post some tips you have on how to keep yourself alive outside of your humble home. Just any random tips that come to mind. I'm trying to make this a sticky if possible so that people can get a good...
I'm thinking of buying a store bought kit, one of the $20 ones that are supposed to be with you when you camp out. Looks promising, but basically just my first aid kit on steroids.
Let's see... in mine I don't have have many things really...it's partially old.
-Bandaids (Large)
Antibiotic Ointment
Hydrocortizone (For that pesky Poison Ivy!)
Gauze Pads (Pretty big. Not...
Hmmm...the book has proven itself so far. With a decent 296 pages, it's a nice and handy book. It has a (surprisingly) information-ful 24 page survival in the desert section, and really does cover...
Is the first one a seperate backpack from your other outdoor items/things? That's hardcore.
Yeah, but what if you're stranded? Like, the tires are flat or the chain spontaneously combusted? :p
Just wondering what you guys take with you when you go to the great yet dangerous outdoors.:innocent:
A bike has a lot of uses. You could dismantle it and use the tires for signaling for some help by burning them, the spokes could be tied on a stick to create a spear, the little elastic bands can be...
I think Les Stroud (from Survivorman) used a magnesium rod once :p
I've used a small amount of bleach to clean suspected water, and yes I have ingested it, so I don't see any problem with external use.
Well, I don't think he'd be safe in a tree anyway if it was a Black Bear or if the tree had branches a grizzly might be able to climb.
I've used one before, and it's actually not a bad firestarter. It is a little tedious to have to scrape a little pile of it onto your tinder, but it's worth it.
Get the sap of a pine tree and glaze the top of a large branch. Voila, insta-torch!
(I just noticed that someone already psoted this... but I guess for good measure, I'll post it anyway to give...
Yeah but it's nothing compared to my top playlists! :P
I never really liked MRE's... some taste like plastic. I usually just make jerky or pemmican, since they both should have a long shelf-life. I'd pretty much agree that dehydrating your own food is...
Thanks for the recommendation. I actually turned out ordering a different book called "The Ultimate Desert Handbook", since it had more reviews and ratings than "Bushcraft", which actually didn't...
I actually like sushi so I guess that's a good thing :tongue_smilie:
But anyway, does anyone know the name of a book specific to survival in South America or Desert Regions? Or at least have a...
Is it.... awful?
