That Krakauer would do anything for a good story. Three times now he has published his theories as fact. I'll wait until these findings have been thoroughly vetted before jumping to any conclusions.
Of course one should never eat ANYTHING they are not 100% sure of it's identification.... That said, I don't know a single mushroom that will kill you in fifteen minutes flat. *ahem* poison hemlock....
Confirming Curly Dock. The name "yellow dock" is in reference to the yellow color of the tap root.
As the old town cop always says: "The purpose of a handgun is to fight your way to a shotgun." Enough said :jango:
We have had a hard time putting the pounds on during the winter, both for pigs and veal, and are going back to spring piglets. You are a little further south though, and it might be the difference....
Weston Price has a lot of good info (though I have some complaints). We raise some pigs on our farm and sell bacon. What I always tell folks is that if you are concerned about nitrosamines, cook at a...

Welcome from across the river :)
Thanks for sharing. That's a lot of processing to be done there!
Good to see you again CarneyC Hope all is well :)
Oi, seja Bem vindo. Tudo bem com Voce?
Ha ha, I'm sure I screwed that one up....
My Portuguese is rusty ;)
Just to be clear, Amanita Muscaria is considered toxic by most. With the appropriate processing it can be rendered safe (so I have read). Would you care to share with us how you process it Randy?
Appears to be chicken of the woods to me, though it took an odd growth pattern and it seems a bit old. Oak would be it's typical fall substrate too (at least in my area). There are no dangerous...
Of those that have not already been mentioned; Sweet Fern, Pennyroyal, and Agrimony. I keep meaning to try Wild Bergamot but have a habit of giving it away!
Well.....That's future Mother in Laws for ya :innocent: Mine warmed up a couple of years after we got hitched. Now I've got her gathering :) It did take years of seeing me not poison her daughter...
