I always recommend and carry flies in my fishing kit. No bait required, and most fish love them.
Good post and well stated. I think for most of us the dream of going off and living in the wilderness is just that...a dream. Life does get in the way, and realistically there really aren't too many...
Always tell someone where you are going, and leave them a trip itinerary.
Leave an imprint of the shoes you will be wearing. This is very simple to do....place a sheet of tin foil on a folded towel...
No problem Rick, should have put it my original post.
Military poncho, SOL emergency bivy bag, 9'X12' plastic sheet, 3 extra large orange garbage bags, 50' para cord, 50' tarred bank line, 6 aluminium tent pegs, emergency mylar space blanket, and a...
In a survival situation the best type of shelter is one you are carrying. Being prepared is the key to wilderness survival, and if you are forced to build a shelter from natural materials, you are...

I'm really not familiar with sycamore, is it a hard wood? I personally have had the best luck with willow on willow, aspen and poplar are very similar. Most of the conifers will work as well. I've...

Pine needle is also one of my favorites, with Balsam Fir being on top of my list. Add some wild winter green berries, some wild grapes and now your talking. Cedar and juniper berries is a good one...
This is what we all strive for, having the knowledge, confidence and gear, so that spending an un-scheduled night in the bush is not an emergency or survival situation, it's just an unplanned camp...
The majority of moose hunters I know go with 308 or 30-06, with 30-06 being the more popular of the two.
Maybe "idiot" was the wrong choice of word and if you were offended I appologize. As Rick was saying, it seems almost daily that someone comes on here with no introduction and 1 or 2 posts and wants...
Why don't we just have a seperate sub-forum for idiots that want to run off to the wilderness so the rest of us don't have to keep reading these posts. Though I have to admit the responses are...
We keep seeing all of these reviews where people tell us about gear, but we never see anyone actually use this stuff. Go for a weekend outing with just your bracelet, video tape that and post it. Now...
My personal favorite, Grohman # 4. The sheath is custom.
Welcome to the forum. I think you guy's need to take at least a year, maybe two and learn and practice the skills you are going to need in order to do this. You didn't go to war without training,...
