Newcastle in the uk, I'll be staying in Penrith which is in the lake district. Thanks for reminding me about something to boil water in, it'ssomething I should have noticed. I'll have water on me...
Apologies. I'm going away for four days. I'll be staying in a cottage at night but through the day I'll be hiking over mountainous terrain. I have a fairly good amount of knowledge and experience....
Ok, I'm staying at a cottage for a few days, I'm going to be doing a lot of hiking so I put together a survival kit. On my person I'll be carrying a reliable folding knife, a mobile phone, a zippo...
both are good ideas. I just ordered 100m of 550 paracord off the net, so I guess the second method will be more convenient if I make one :p

Anyone who thinks they can make it in the wilderness with only cloths and a knife then actually attempts too should make sure they actually CAN. I think the knife is the most important piece of kit....

I don't care much for knife with short thick blade and metal handles. It depends on what you need it for. I prefer a traditional birch handle with a 4"-5" blade with just over an inch thickness. It...
I purchased a knife a month or so back, it has no brand but has served me extremely well. Its a 4" blade with a full tang and natural birch handle. It has no brand so it was only about $25 but its...
Coming onto the subject of First aid, could anyone recommend sites to me for it? I can properly dress a wound, address a broken limb and I know the basics of CPR... anything else I could go over? Any...
Why not show your husband the people who are living the dream. He may change his mind. Welcome to the site ^_^
I guess your right. But it destroys land. I'm not sure of the cause it, however I think pollution from vehicles is there... So although this is a Wilderness Survival forum I think looking at...
I got the "Ray Mears' Outdoor Survival Handbook" it covers some tracking, well, it covers pretty much every aspect of survival or "bushcraft". Its a great book. It goes through the four seasons and...
I think the hole was maybe too big, I made a slit in the top with my knife and the char cloth ignited when it was in the tin. But when I took it out it was still totally black and help sparks, but...
Ok... so I place the cotton buds into the tin (travel sweet tin, the same as boot polish tins) poke a small hole with the tip of my knife in the top of it then put it on the fire and it starts to...
