Crashdive, are you confusing the ferro rods with flint and steel ?? The reason I ask, is because ferro's make a lot hotter sparks, while the flint and steels are not as hot, and won't light(atleast...
Punk wood, pine slivers, Just about any natural material can be used as char material.. The charring process is pretty much the same .. You just have to experiment with what you have to find what...
Catching would probably be the hard part especially in winter...lol Just would hope that they aren't too tough...lol
My question with that 12 pound hare would be, would you still have to worry about "rabbit starvation" from eating one of those buggers over time if you had nothing else ??

Check both those places out that I mentioned... I'll have to wait a bit before putting $35 into bearings(wheels and bearing kits)... I'll check the local bike shops as well to see if they have any...
