Another Water Thread.
While looking for waterbutts, I came across this:

I was thinking about getting some to help keep the water sweeter once I've got the waterbutts. Anyone use them?
Oh and if only I could afford one, this is the little baby I want!

I've never heard of ceramic chips being used. I'm curious what they mean by keeping the water sweeter? Are they implying potable?
-
I've looked and can't locate a source that says what they are made of (besides ceramic). I've never heard of using ceramic to prevent algae growth. I don't understand how it would work.
I use a bit of bleach in my "water butts" (water barrels) to keep them clean and prevent algae growth.
-
They're made of a specific mud, usually used as mudballs to keep pond water clear, in that state they only last a season.
To answer your question Crash, no it doesn't make it potable, just clearer and cleaner.
Here's a bit about it, I'm working at the mo, so will try and find more info later.

Found another link to these EM seramic thingies. This one has far more info! Think they may be worth it.

Had time for a proper read of this, Some of the claims sound a bit far fetched. I think as a water cleaner for static water it may just be OK though!

Things look like Raschig rings to me.
Pack your reflux still and run you off a batch of some low bush lightning. For fuel purposes only of course. :innocent::scooter:
-
Don't mean to be rude Batch, but could you repeat that in English?
-
Yeah. English would be good.

Winnie, thanks for the links, never heard of these.
I a bleach and boil person myself.
Got to say they are real proud of their products, I made do with a couple of 50 gal drums from a soda syrup manufacturer, to collect rain water.
Wonder if these rings would help in these?
