times change
I got hit with a bit of nostalgia earlier today and googled puddlejumper. When I was a lad a puddlejumper was a homemade tractor/skidder/boom truck made from a old car, truck or combo of both. Google brought me a bunch of flotation devices. I had to laugh, woudthunkit.
-
They were pretty popular in central and northern Wisconsin as well.
Friend of mine's father had one that was built on a truck frame, Hudson motor and trans, driving the 4 wheel drive truck tranismission.....used tractor tires all 4 wheels.
Wish I had pic's....

Google probably keyed on the term "puddle" equated it with water and listed out the flotation devices. Google is good but it's not perfect like those of us on here.
-
A puddle jumper here is a small float plane.

Those are neat photos of the puddle jumper I was talking about. You are the master at googlefu Hunter LOL.

I guess it's "How can I ask the question"....
We had a lot of them around in mid Wisconsin....snow plows, tractors, and just swamp buggies.
Pic from the site I posted......

I always thought they were Coast Guard Cutters.:innocent:

Down south we call those "swamp buggies"
-
Those do look like early swamp buggies. We have mainly two kinds of buggies down here now. Everglades buggies which are basically like a jeep with a highrise seat in the back and then Palm Beach Buggies. Which are jacked up rigs that cost 10's of thousands to a hundred thousand dollars.
Something more typically like this.
