What beautiful pictures. This country has so much beauty to offer. One thing is absolute. Buffalo do take the right of way. They don't care who you are. They will take your lane, their lane or any lane they choose and if you don't like it, tough.

I love that part of the country and it was also our favorite road trip about 10 years ago. I think we pretty much did what you did here plus we spent time in WY too--Dubois (all time fave) and Buffalo--all in 2 weeks, wish we had more.

I remember warm days and chilly nights in August, no humidity and endless vistas on the road. If it weren't for brutal winters we'd seriously consider living there.

I've got one question... Did you stop at the Flintstone village?? Many moons ago we were driving from Arkansas to Alaska on a PCS move with the Air Force and we stopped in

I dunno how I missed this til now! Stunning photos, Crash! You must have practically drove by my house to get there, too. I'm originally from SD, born in Rapid City and grew up in West River (to the extent that I grew up at all). Spent the next 25 years in Sioux Falls, then Minnesota, before I moved out west. The Badlands and the Hills are both really striking, no doubt. Great pics of Devil's Tower. And probably the best pics I've ever seen of Mt Rushmore!

Didn't make that stop.

That's OK, I found a video of a guy walking through the now abandoned park. I guess the kids now adays don't have any idea wo the Flintstones actually were.. Apparently it's been closed down for the past 7 years but, all the buildings are still there. Surprised the vandals and taggers haven't put their art all over everything..
