I stopped because it got dark and I've got a pound of salt on it. I'll get back to it tomorrow afternoon.
How's the progress look?
I've cut through to the fur a few times

Was cutting off the head a rookie mistake?
If you shuck the pelt off like a shirt from the bottom end towards the nose it is like an inside out stuffed animal with the only openings the end parts.
I used to keep boards cut kind of like ironing boards the nose is at the narrow end and the pelt is streatched down that, but you need one the right size.
There used to be wire strethers similar, not sure if they were home made or not at my friend (rip) dad's house. They were the big trappers and I just kinda tagged along and helped out.
I did manage to make about 1 - 2 k a year trapping muskrat with "boxes" set in front of their holes. we were getting 3 - 5 dollars a pelt for em back then. And they overran the old impoundment that the city had contracted old mr m and us to trap out for them, they paid him money, and let us keep all the pelts too. I was one of the richest kids in town for a couple years.
spent most on guns, fishing stuff, camping stuff and once I hit 16 girls, it was girls that ended up breaking my bank though. gotta watch out for them.
You are doing just fine, keep it up. And yes it is hard but it gets easier the more you do.
I flesh before stretching using a beam and a two handled flesher. Beaver are a tough skin to flesh compared to other skins. I agree with wtfler you're coming along fine, it takes time and experience.
here's a photo of a beaver I caught last fall. These days I set a few traps out and play around.

I went to a Ball once but not knowing how to watlz it wasn't much fun. I have seen my share of Balls of Fire but they are usually the result of a scary accident of some sort. One would think I would be much better with balls than I am since I'm a guy I have been around balls since the day I was born.
Definately cool. Most I've done is rabbit and squirrel. Sent the bigger/ tougher stuff out to get done.

I figure if I'm gonna do a crappy job on skinning I'd like it to on road . The perfect opportunity presented itself
Looks like you're doing a great job. What are you planning on doing with it? They make pretty cool hall hangings.
