I cheat. I use a 2" X 72" belt sander.
Mine's half that long and twice as wide! 4"x36".
On machetes I first use the grinder, then go to the sander.
Go slow Hunter. It might just be a machete but you still do not want to burn the edge.
While you have the sander going think about working on the handles. The last bunch of machetes I got had over sized handles with bad overlap that would tear you hands up. I had to sand the wood back to meet the metal.
Like that idea of the bigger belt sander....mine is a small combo like 1-1/2 or something like that w a 6" disc.....
Wasn't sure if I wanted to spring for one just yet.
Agree on the handles....pretty crude....
Still working on the horizontal vice.....
.
Not wanting to wait till I can get out to "The Place" where the "flop jaw vice"in located.....picked up a Masterforce (Menards version of HF) 3" low profile vice....
Plan is to mount on a another board in a vertical position....to mount in my bench vice...so as to make it storable.
That should hold the blade horizontal..... If not I'm only out $22 bucks....
