cool dude! I want to try out the bowdrill before winter, when everything is still dry. The handrill is def a lot more convenient to set up, just be aware that you can DESTROY your hands with blisters to the point where its impossible to continue.

Annadel isnt flat at all. My entire county is just a series of valleys and mountains. All of the cities are in the valleys and the mountains are either parks or private property. (some of the mountains are so steep and rugged that the owners dont even do anything with them, they just sit there undeveloped) Ever wonder why the rocky mountains are so remote? Nobody builds cities in the mountains. Mendocino national forest is just a big mountainous wilderness. Nobody build any towns around there, so the fed decided to lump the whole thing and call it a national forest. Thats why pot farmers like it so much. They can hide in the mountains, and there towns circling the area that they can sneak into really easy.

If your worried about smoke, try out this method called a dakota fire hole
Basically, the air updraft makes it burn extremely hot and it produces no or almost no smoke. You will be amazed when you see how well it works. It was used a lot by traveling native americans to avoid hostel tribes and in modern day it has been used a lot by military. Also, if you dig a hole, you can easily push the dirt in the hole and be on your way with little evidence.
Just make sure your wood is extremely dry and keep it small and you shouldnt have too much smoke even without the whole. The more you experiment the better you get and predicting and preventing smoke.

300 Acres sounds kind of tiny though,( annadel is 5,000 acres) but people almost never go off trail ever. There are a few though. In my park i found a perfect spot that is super remote. I like to go there and practice skills in peace. I even practiced and built a really cool a-frame shelter.
After going there like 20 times i only ever saw people 2 times. One was a father and son walking by with no backpack or water (really weird) and another time litterally as i was packed up and walking down the hill i saw a group of nerdy looking teenagers walking up. That was weird. Near that area i found a weird cult circle looking thing in this ring of trees. It was creepy.

I hike around annadel state park.
They dont allow fires in state parks, but honestly i have made very small, very contained fires just to boil some water or cook some food out of necessity and havent had any issues. If you make sure that you are a good distance away from a trail, and nobody else is going to come up to there. Not saying you should or shouldnt break the law, thats your decision(big fines if you get caught), just saying its not too hard to get away with it depending on where you are.

Ive never seen those before. They cant be salmonberries because they look too spiky, salmonberries have the same texture as rasberries. Also it seems way too early in the year for berries.
