I just got back from the range and it is set at 2" high at 100 yards. I really wanted 1.5" high at 100, but it is so "dead on the money" center at 100 yard that I just left it alone. The recoil was not as bad as a buddy of mine told me it would be and I got my "zero" shot in nine rounds. "Primitive Weapon" season starts here in the morning and I will see if I have any luck.

  3. Nick,
    Sounds like a plan.
I getting to need?like? the scopes more and more, as the old eyes seem to get mixed up between the rear sight and front, LOL

Let me know how it works.
Literature for the Hornady LeverEvolution rounds, does list the H&R as being able to handle them, some of the old trap door Springfields won't.

I went to my local gun shop and had them mount the Nikon BDC scope on it. It seem a little silly to put a scope with M.O.A. rings out to 250 yards on a 45/70, but they swear that if I get it sighted in at 100 yards the rings or circles will be dead on the money out to 250 yards if I use te Hornady LeverEvolution rounds with it. I am somewhat skeptical, but I plan to find out this afternoon.

  5. Yo, Swamp,
Yes, I do have a 45/70 barrel, has open sights, so if you get one that is a 45/70 from the factory you should be fine, it will have the low come, shotgun style stock.
Look and see if it has a scope mounting holes, as well.

Mine shoots good, usally holding a 1-1/2 group @100 yds, open sights, so for me that's exceptable, as I use it mostly for hunting, and I try for at least a min of paper plate, for a kill zone.

I'm sure if I worked with it, more, I could tighten it up some.

Recoil seems to be more of a "push", than kick, for such a light rifle.
    I like it.

Should come on a SB2 reciever, so you can get just about any other barrel for it, except the 10 ga.

They also come in a "Old west" version, longer barrrel and straight stock, pretty cool, but more money.

You can use it in La, during muzzle-loader season, and will handle any factory hot loads.
    Congrats , let me know.

Hey Hunter don't you have a Handi Rifle in .45-70? I just got a bonus today and am thinking about buying one. But I am curious about how accurate they are. How does yours shoot? I have heard of several people who had trouble getting tight groups and had to place a spacer under the barrel lug to free float the barrel. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations?
  7. Yo, OldTrap, Might head down for a day or so, as we are at the "Place" our cabin about 30 miles from there now.
Kinda hard to bring 4 dogs with us, and I have been asked to set up for dairy day In Soldiers Grove that week end, but don't know if we will be threr as well.
Little harder now that we are getting older, if you knbow what I mean.........
    Thanks for asking.
