Hello, my name is Vanessa and I am a partner in a perfume shop in Madrid.
The substance used to give a good smell is known as perfume. This concept has its origin in the Latin per fumare, in reference to the aroma that was given off by the smoke in the sahumado (the process that consisted of provoking an aromatic smoke so that something smells good or is purified).
Nowadays, perfume is understood as the product, usually liquid, used by men and women on their bodies to give off a pleasant smell. For example: "My husband gave me a French perfume for my birthday", "I take a shower, put on perfume and I'm ready to go out", "I don't like the perfume Carmen uses, it's too strong".
According to her aromatic intensity and concentration, it is possible to speak of perfume (more than 15% of aromatic essence); eau de parfum; eau de toilette or bath water; eau de cologne or eau de cologne; or splash perfume.
It is important to establish that one of the most important literary works of the 20th century is precisely the one entitled "The Perfume". More than fifteen million copies have been sold worldwide of this book created in 1985 by the German writer Patrick Süskind.
