We've heard about primary preferences for shooters but, what do you have for a back-up when it can't fail?

Well,, if you carry a 1911, it does not fail, so no back up is needed :) Just saying after 30 or so years using it

Firearms are dangerous, and I don't want to hurt myself.

Kahr MK9 and a Spyderco back up my Glock. If I carried a 1911 (and would not) I would carry a second gun (Glock) for when It choked :). Sorry Pal, I could'nt resist :). Best

While I don't own a handgun, unfortunately, mine would be a knife as I always carry a couple on my persons. For the past year or so, it has been mainly a Ka-bar folding dozier.

Sir: You have never been attacked by 17 Geese at one time, you should also be advised these geese are "BACKED-UP" by the full strength and horrible Wrath of "THOR" the nimble walking stick. However should these defenses start to be compromised and/or should one feather be ruffled on even one goose, well it just won't be very pretty when 6.8 SPC comes to the party.:innocent:

With all the new and revised political atmosphere firearm is a dirty word. My first line is my attack beagle followed by throwing my wallet. When said "bad guy" bends over to pick up the wallet the attack beagle will grab anything swinging. If I did carry a firearm it would be a 45 loaded with Federal personal defense loads and a nice SOG Flash II and always my trusty walking stick. Mostly I cower in the house and peek out the windows.

I can't carry off duty, personal reasons... being if some azzhat johnny bad guy or dipshid goof ball acts a damn fool then I'm gonna lose it and blast his goat smelling, yellow toothed, bad breath having, wellfare stealing azz and get in a whole new bunch of trouble. If I just have my knife I can stick his rotten azz and toss it somewhere deep, dark and dank after I lick the prints off the handle... lol
Take care bro,

Thread has kinda gotten off track...
1911 main and when necessary, a .25 noisemaker... only for very close range and only if all else fails. It isn't even good for equalizing weight distribution, but it pops.

So as long as we are back on track, Walther PPK SS .380.
Says it was made by S&W under license?

All this talk about various wife's and girlfriends and such, reminds me of
Big Jude.
Large fit lady I used to go out to the bars with.
We weren't going out, per se, it was just that she wanted to have some fun and it seemed she did better at finding guys when she was with some one. Me (So what does that tell ya,?)

Anyway she could be just plain mean, and carried a purse that today could be considered a BOB bag.
Pulled my sorry butte out of trouble a bunch of times........Ah, Yes, The Good? Old days?

'Course that was before my wife's good graces changing my ways and such.

Backups are important. You have backuups for fire starting, a back-up cutting tool, etc. Well, get a back-up. It may be a shooter, a pen or your hands and feet. It doesn't have to be much, just effective. You need to know how to use it / them. That's all. Just something to think about.

You know, as intuitive as it might be I've never looked at it that way. Thanks! Now I guess I need to spend more money (shaking head). I have a backup at home but not when I'm out and about.

I don't plan on a firefight anywhere close. I carry my usual 45 & SOG but extra mag stays in the vehicle. Primary weapon is a legal anywhere walking stick. I consider the others backup. I can still hold my own in hand to hand plus I am mean, nasty and generally the type of old fossil that makes kids cry and women cringe, men just run and hide their livestock and stay out of my way.

I don't carry an extra firearm on my person. I carry a P226 .40 when I am not working. I carry a PF9 in pocket when working. I keep a Taurus pt111 in a snap holster between my split bench truck seats.

I am actually wanting to switch the pocket carry to a hammer-less revolver. Too much pocket lint...

I carry at least two knives at all times. A SOG PEII weak side and a Spyderco waved Endura strong side. Usually have a CaseXX Stockman in my weak side pocket as well.
