I've been meaning to add this for a while. It's a very handy site that covers all things smallholding, from starting a garden to preserving the harvest and keeping chickens. Hope you find it useful:)

Looks like a very good reference, though it isn't specific to my area. I'll be doing a lot of reading on there. Thanks for sharing!

winnie, aren't you the chicken expert here? I have been thinking of starting my own coop. Would you mind a few PM's on some specifics to get me started?

OK, here's another story that starts - Once upon a time in a forest called Uwharrie. A young and not particularly knowledgeable, Special Forces student was undergoing survival training. One particular task was hypnotizing a chicken before doing him in. I don't know why, but is was cool at the time. You place his head on the ground (beak down) and slowly draw a line in the dirt from his beak to about six inches. Continue tracing the line in the dirt for about 30-60 seconds and then slow to a stop, The chicken will not move from that position and you can place stick over his neck, etc.

HEY!!!!!!!!! I said I didn't know what it proved and still don't, but it was fun.

Ah yes OGI but don't you have to "first catch your chicken"?

BTW Norma has been corresponding with the girls and they are now fully fledged drumsticko ninja chickens:sneaky2: That old flannel won't work I tell ya!

I got a machine and I took over the world... In one weekend. I did it because I was looking for a project, and it was either take over the world, or learn french. So I took over the world, and next weekend, I can learn french.
