View Full Version : Cannibalism

First off, I'm sorry, this is my first post and it's not a good subject at all I know, so again, really sorry if this offends anyone!

At the moment I'm going through a phase (I'm seeing a councillor soon) and thinking soon there will a major weather change and where I live will become like the arctic, I'm already buying survival gear and warm clothing just in case!

The thing im worried about the most if this does happen, is not being to find food and resorting to cannibalism of the freshly frozen people (I know this sounds like a sick joke, but its something ive really got stuck in my head!)

My question is... could anyone actually go through with this? And what parts of the human body are worthwhile eating to get the most protein/nutrients and what to avoid?

Thanks and sorry once again!

Global climate shift is a myth perpetuated by money hungry socialists who have kidnapped the environmental movement.

Watch this:

http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-241186467547704067

Read this:

http://www.amazon.com/State-Fear-Michael-Crichton/dp/0061015733/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-0819536-6880818?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1175117227&sr=8-1

Not that protecting the environment is bad. Its good, pollution == bad, recycling == good. But while people know that oil companies are billion dollar corporations, they fail to understand that the environmental movement (or any big charity) is a billion dollar bureaucracy. They're both tainted by money. You have naive celebrity hangers on who harb on environmental causes while flying around in jets because, as a general rule, celebrities are too arrogant to ever admit being wrong about their beliefs (see Tom Cruise). Then you have a bunch of idiot college joiners who don't know anything but saw social causes being romanticized in movies and other media in their youth and so want to feel like they belong to something. Behind them all though are some crafty lawyers (lawyers, not environmentalists, scientists, or anything else, lawyers) who are just trying to gain more money/status/power while trying to convince themself of their own lie.

That all being said, planning ahead for an emergency is a good idea, but you are probably taking it too far. If you're really worried build a pond and stock it with a hardy fish like catfish or carp. That way if you did have a horrible winter you could always go ice fishing, but if not, you can still go fishing in the summer too. Then storage staples would be flour, sugar, salt, dried rice, beans, peas, lentils.

Thanks Chris, I admit that I am taking this to a whole new level of extreme!

I do agree that "global warming" is the new buzzwords for governments to jump on and an extreme shift in global weather happening on a scale of "The Day After Tomorrow" and in such a short space of time, say a few years, is very very very remote.

And this is off on a tangent at the moment; do you believe this could happen in a few thousand years? The Earth is a complex place with many delicate balances that man does like to disrupt (over fishing, deforestation, C02 production etc

While it might not be man that causes global warming, it's a natural event; I think we are speeding up the process.

Chris
03-29-2007, 08:53 AM
Sure it could happen in a few thousand years. The earth naturally heats & cools cyclically, and has done so for millions of years. Right now other planets such as Mars or Pluto are undergoing temperature changes too, its natural.

Plus, you know what gas contributes more (and I mean significantly more) to the greenhouse effect than CO2? Methane. Methane is produced by every decaying piece of organic matter on the planet, that far outweighs any human co2 contribution. In the last hundred years CO2 has only risen by a few parts per million. Temperature also in many places has gone down. Where temperature has gone up it can be attributed to an increase in population (urban heat island effect, thats real).

"The Day After Tommorow" had no real science in it. It was a political statement movie. They knew the message they wanted to send, and they constructed science around it.

You can pull an Al Gore and massage the statistics though. If you have a graph that looks like the rocky mountains and covers 200 years you can find many 15 year segments in that graph that show an up trend and pull those out, not showing the rest, and it'll look like temperature is going up. However if you actually look at the full 200 year temperature data the mean temperature is almost flat with no change.

Right now republicans use fear of terrorists to push their political agenda, which isn't always about fighting terrorists. Dems are now using fear of climate change to push their political agenda which has little to do with real climate science.

To give you another example, Dems usually still vehemently oppose the logging industry, and you'll find violent protesters still trying to stop logging companys. However in the past 10 years the US has recorded a net increase in forested areas due to proper management. The logging industry has been fixed, it isn't a problem anymore. And while they shouldn't go cutting down 1000 year old redwoods, their normal day to day operations are not hurting the environment.

Amused, i agree, i can't see myself eating another person either. Thats kinda gross, sense I'm from FL i'd probably be the first to freeze to death anyway. On a side note if i'm not mistaken Biblical Prophesy states that the earth is going to be destroyed by fire.

With the eating of humans there is the good chance of catching a disease that can kill you. If you eat the brain or spinal cord, you can contract certain diseases that will destroy your own nervous system unless the flesh is cooked until very well done. I'd rather use the body as bait than to actually eat it as a food source, if I were put into that kind of situation. I could eat a buzzard a lot faster than my cousin Joe any day.

Wanna know something cool about buzzards? *assumes someone said yes* They gorge themselves on rotting meat until they can no longer fly. Now, this would seem to be a problem, as a temporarily flightless bird could easily become something's meal. However, if cornered, the buzzards (and other scavenging birds including ravens, and, I think, bald eagles) will puke into the faces of their attackers, simultaneously blinding the predatory, and lightening them, allowing them to escape. Cool huh?

I thought since we were discussing something relatively nauseating anyway (cannibalism), I might as well share that.
Your welcome, :-D

think about if you were frozen would you care if someone ate you to survive (personally I wouldn't) and don't eat the brain you might contract laughing sickness (it is a real sickness).

If the situation is that grim then the person you are planning on eating probably isn't the most helathy source of food. They will have been starving also. And people carry some nasty diseases. Someone can have HIV and no symptoms. I wouldn't eat another human. Besides I couldn't look at myself in the mirror if I did. And the only person here on earth you need to live with is yourself - if you can't stand yourself you're in need doo-doo.

Stock up on food. There are a few good sites for learning how to prep. Any one that wants the one I post on just pm me. It is advertising free so it won't affect any advertisers on here.

well if we have to eat people some day we could just breed them for food. we could let them age till about ten or so then kill them for food. the viatimins from veggies would be hard to get though.

Well seeing how hte earth isn't going to freeze over anytime soon, and probably not at all, and I agree that globalwarming is jsut a govermental/commercial owrd they wuse to make people spazz out and go money crazy buying thigns they dont need. But about cannalablism, it's not right, it's not normal, I'm not putting MrFlibble but it still isn't right, plus I coudln't live with myself witehr, adn if it is in thsoe dire situtations then I agree the body would proabbly bee bad for you adn have disseases, STD's+ otehr bad crap.

I always find it humorous what people say they would or wouldn't do in a situation they have never been in before - vs. the cold hard fact that when your life is in peril and you want to stay alive you will be willing to do anything to stay alive.

Reality is just about everyone will eat any available meat if that's the only meat or otherwise sustanance to be found. Especially when you experiance a hunger pain you've never ever thought was possible.

Although I could be wrong, I don't believe that any of the surivors from the Uruguayan rugby team, whose plane crashed in the Andes Mountains in 1972, (featured in the movie Alive) survived and DIDN'T resort to cannabalism.

It may be a morbid and gross thought. But if it's a choice between living or dying, most choose to live and will do anything to keep it that way.

Planning for it, and getting your taste buds ready for it, in the completely unlikely event of a cataclysmic world-ending storm is something else. Nobody plans for it. Its just something you do, if that's all that is available at the moment.

Personally, dead is dead and meat is meat. But I don't plan on flying over the Andes either.

I read the account of that rugby team when I was in school and it was pretty disturbing. one random thing from it though is they said that rotten brains taste like cheese...

KRASH!
06-25-2007, 08:42 PM
When you're hungry (to the extent you're dying) your mind in a very impressive device that can play tricks on you to help cope with a disturbing thought, to include masking a taste.
Although I have no experience eating brains (of anything) its quite common in many other cultures. But I have a hard time believing they taste good, or like anything I'd want to eat. But taste, based on your diet is highly subjective.
I would if at all possible just stick to meat (i.e. muscle), that is an area in which I feel most comfortable. Having not tasted any humans myself, I can only surmise that whether carnivore, herbivore, or human - all land based mammals will taste 'about' the same.

I would be apt to swallow without chewing or tasting, but if I'm not mistaken, your body has a difficult time digesting things that aren't broken down. And that also eats up calories?!

In City Slicker's II they make a joke, where, for-benefit-of-the-group Phils' idea (should he die first) is "Eat me!" to where Mitch pretends to enjoy the predicament stating, "Mmmm! Is there any more Phil? Mmm He's even good cold! Great party...thanks to Phil"

Screw it I'll say it although this is an old thread. In an extreme survival situation and you were the weakest and dying or had just died. I'm guttiing your a** and putting you on a spit over the fire. Cook your a** till your well done and fill my gut. I ain't no zombie brain eater so that I ain't eating. Thigh meat will last, bicep and tricep, liver and other organs etc. Sorry but if its an extreme survival situation and that is all I got then I'm munch'n out. Stay alert... Stay Alive :D

The dude that started this thread seems to be worrying quite a bit, think he's seen the movie "the day after tomorrow" one too many times. But it is a good topic as it could happen in a severe winter storm, or plane crash in the mountains (didn't that really happen) :D

What MrFlibble is describing is not going to happen in our lifetime... so why worry about that. So just stock up on supplies and get prepared for the other types of survival situations that are more plausible. Eathquakes, Hurricanes, Tornadoes, possible terrorist attacks etc. etc. etc.

At any rate, even if major freeze over does occur, I think it would happen so slowly that there would be ample warning of it waaaayyyy ahead of time. Lets apply some common sense to this. We are not the Donners and we are not in the movie Soylent Green. Sheesh.

HOP
11-04-2007, 07:44 PM
What Solyent green was about was less about canabilism and more on what goverments are wiling to stoop to in order to keep the masses peaceful. Most people keep their preparation quite because of the nae sayers who travel from pasture to pasture and doen't admit that the wolves might be a problem. If a person want's to do worst case senario good for them A GREAT CATASTROPHY CAN HAPPEN AT THE PUSH OF A BUTTON.

Also its likely that they’d be physically stronger then me which is why I asked the question (which was directed at everyone not just Beo) Anyway I think I’m going to watch this thread a little longer before I answer Sarge’s thread “if you could have anybody” lol.

I agree with you for the most part owl_girl,with the exception that I will kill someone if I am or my family is in danger, otherwise, killing because I can or for the sake of killing is against my religion also, animals on the other hand I do believe strongly that they were put on this earth to benefit man,for food ,clothing, and labor.

I seperate cannibalism into 3 classes:

Emergency: like the Andies where you do to survive. You do it after all other sources are exhausted, and still takes great effort to see it through. As a last resort, to extend your life and augment your chances of being rescued or surviving.

Pre-meditated: where you plan to eat another human; I have several friends who were "guest" in the Gulag system. When and where they could escape, it was always done in 3's, 2 stronger and a weaker one as the ration. They would die anyways so they tried the best they could to make a break for freedom in the only way they new.

Ritualistic: where certain body parts of fallen enemies were eaten in ceremony to acquire those characteristics that your tribe admired or wanted to preserve in yourself. ei: heart
My people practised this as a matter ceremony.

You guys are really entertaining but if it goes any farther you’re going to have to get a room. Personally I find it a little creepy how the topic of cannibalism turned into flirting lol.

Was I flirting with nell? Oh hell yes I was! A room huh? What a timely and clever response from one so young, thank you owl_girl....although...Nell? I prefer a tent :D

Hardly a comment... I will say that since the intestines are usually lined with vital minerals to be transported throughtout the body, that would be a good place to start. I wouldnt recommend anything that you know can easily catch disease... lol... what an odd question... me personally, I wouldnt eat another person... use ur knife, cut of ur fingers one by one... french fries!:)

to having only two or three fingers left, cutting them off's going to be a bit of a challenge, you know if you haven't bled to death already.

I know intestines are full of something... and I ain't gonna eat 'em, but much more importantly...welcome back Strider, did you bring us back a hobbit? haven't heard from you in awhile, unless I've been missing things, which is entirely possible.

Stephen King once wrote a short story about a guy stranded on a desert island and had no food except..........himself. So he starts on his toes and works his way up. King said, at the end of the story, that he wanted to know how much a person could devour of themselves before they'd die, so he consulted a medical person for his facts. Pretty gruesome story. In his book: "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon", he tells about a 9 year old girl who gets separated from her mom & older brother on that big trail over in Maine and has to survive on the stuff in her daypack and what she has on. Again, a survival expert was consulted. I remember thinking, before I found out what the story was about, that it sounded really dumb. However it was very interesting and caused me to start thinking about "Survival" as a skill in itself. I highly reccommend it.

The story on the desert island, wasn't the character a doctor and all he had was morphine so he kept injecting himself to kill the pain? I heard King talk about it in an interview one time, which just left me thinking that he's one weird dude, again.

I thought the original topic made me feel weird enough, but then you had to go and steam up some long pork and now i'm just upset. That's not how you cook up such a wonderful delicacy! Just how often do you get to eat it that you can waste it like it's low quality beef!?!
