Hahahaha. I printed that out to post on the bulletin board at work.I work in the trucking industry and can't stand it when I get in a truck and it reeeeeks like cigarettes. I lost a job because the guy in the truck with me smoked. I complained and he got me fired. Only time in my life I have been fired.

If it isn't your truck you should not be allowed to smoke in it. As for brokers, your mechanic may not smoke, the customs officer may not smoke. They all will require regular access to your and should not be subjected to third hand smoke and the health risks that come with it.

Not a bad law. A good one and I commend the cop for enforcing it.

Yeah. Some people are also sickened by the smell of sh!t. On ocassion, a guest may use my bathroom, or I may need the services of a plumber.

So I guess I shouldn't sh!t in my own bathroom anymore. I'll go outside from now on.

If the guy owns the truck, I don't give a damn who else goes in it. It's not like it's generally open to the public, like a restroom or a convenience store. It's his property - his personal space. The customs guy may have bad breath or body odor. Can the trucker order him to stay outside of his cab?

If the guy owns the truck, a mechanic can simply refuse to work on it. Right?

The problem is, too many people want to impose their own pious self-righteous can't mind their own damn business values on others and want to control what others do, as if it were their right to stick their nose in everyone else's affairs, homes, automobiles, etc. And that is how wars start. When people can't mind their own business and stick their noses where they don't belong.

'scuse me. I gotta' hit the bathroom now. I just got an overwhelming urge to take a dump.

although it may be his own truck it is still considered a place of buisness, i have had other tradesmen in my vehicle or drive my vehicle when i am off smoke in it, and after a few polite words to them they will never do that again, i commend the laws here that forbid smoking.
iremember when i first went to arizona back in 94 and the commercial establishments were non smoking, caught me off guard and that was in 94 now this many years later while everone else is coming to terms with these laws i am comfortable and happy with them

Not anymore. I quit, WE. However, I respect the individual rights of those who continue to smoke.

In the case you mentioned, the operative fact was that it was YOUR truck. Of course you had the right to ask others to refrain from smoking in your vehicle.

I drive my cars everyday in the course of my work. It's entirely possible that I may be stopped by a police officer, or roll up to a drive-thru window. Are you suggesting that I should not have been permitted to smoke in my own private vehicle because someone may have caught a whiff of smoke during these rare encounters?

How about my home? Should I have been banned from smoking there? A police officer may have rung my doorbell - a pizza delivery guy came by once or twice a month - there was always the possibility that some poor burglar may have chosen my home at random.

Okay. I hate the smell of diesel fuel exhaust and gasoline exhaust. Both are clearly harmful if inhaled. Burning fossil fuel has been linked to global warming. You own a truck, don't you, RL? I think that do-gooder guys like you should be examples for the rest of us.

Maybe Canada should pass a law prohibiting you from operating your truck within 300 feet of any pedestrian. Why should I have to smell your exhaust? Do you enjoy a campfire from time to time? Get my drift?

Government loves to prohibit all sorts of conduct. They even involve themselves in matters of taste, such as prohibiting "unsightly objects" including "wireless antennas," "noxious weeds or other weeds of any kind," "unused automobiles" (not junks, just "unused") "outdoor clothes lines" (which actually reduce environmental harm compared to clothes driers) and "drawing, printing or writing scratched, sprayed, painted or scribbled on a wall or other surface" even if done so by the owner."

Yep. Unsightly objects. Let's prohibit ANYTHING that others may object to for aesthetic purposes, RIGHT? Why should I have to look at anything I find objectionable? RIGHT? So, RL, can we talk about that hat you're wearing in your avatar? :innocent:

ah yes kenneth i should have known, i actually meant to write it earlier, the only thing worse than a smoker is a reformed smoker, what you do in your own vehicle is your own choice unless there are minors in the car then it is also illeagal here, but as was ststed earlier if it is a company vehicle ie company logo on it, it is considered a work vehicle and thus subject to the same laws as any workplace, i find it humourous how the smokers always say we are infringing upon there rights to smoke, when they have thoughtlessly lite up in public for so many years w/o regard to non smokers

I smoke,tried to quit several times over the years,but always found myself back at it,all this bs about non-smokers rights makes me mad,we have already been pushed outside in 90% of places we once were allowed to smoke,my suggestion is,if you don't want to see it or walk through it,find a different route out of the building,chances are the smoking area is positioned in the least visible/traveled area in the first place.

Funny thing I noticed is the majorty of doctors who tell you to stop smoking have a pack of Marlboros hanging out of their pocket,and if you step out of thier office,he is the one bumming a light from you...

I am a smoker, maybe the worst kind , a pipe (legal only). I don't smoke near children,the work place, but I do smoke in my work car (owner and operator) . I have actually been stopped by a supervisory State Trooper who thought that my black Crown Vic was a Troop car (One would think he would have run the plates). He started to loudly tell me that I could not smoke in my car because it was used by others and was against regulations. I interupted him and told him I had no interest in State Police smoking policy. THEN he ran the plates and found they were issued to my company. He tried the "no workplace smoking" line on me. I just asked him to put it in writing, since I had no interest , nor a need for a public health lecture from a non mdeical professional. Suffice it to say, we parted ways. But I made sure that I filed an information with his Headquarters to CYA in case he got vindictive.

That was a long way around to say, I don't need to be told what issues are involved in smoking, I certainly don't need a politician to tell me and it is ludicrious for a government to be involved to the extent indicated in the article. It is only common sense not to smoke around a non smoker (obviously including childreN), or anyone that objects to smoke. As to the mechanic, feel free to post a sign,I will respect your wishes and I will be happy to take my business elsewhere.

Oh heck, Ken...maybe RL is right. And if he is, lets continue the logic.
1.Lets outlaw hunting with weapons that have deadly force, farther than you can see, or may penetrate things that you can't see through, meaning you could kill someone that you didn't see.

2. Lets outlaw collecting and eating wild plants. People could mis-identify plants and poison themselves. (Raising health care cost, for all of us.)

3. Lets outlaw home gardening. Mis-handled/stored food can cause illness or even death. (See above.)

And I want some moron who is obviously unemployable (or they would have a real job) passing laws trying to control every detail of my life. And then by passing said laws, they put a decent hardworking civil servant (a Police Officer) in the position of enforcing these idiotic Proclaimations .Sighing as I go to my corner to get my blood pressure medicine.

I used to smoke and quite. Last form of tobacco was 1989. Smoking doesn't bother me a bit. I just hope you're actually on fire when you're smoking around me cause you won't like getting sprayed with the fire extinguisher if you aren't.
