I would like to announce that my Sweetie and I have chosen to adopt. :) We picked up our new bundle of joy late this afternoon. A Basset Hound. Lola is 3 years old, and was about to get dropped off at an animal shelter by a neighbor who said he didn't have time for her anymore. :sneaky2:

She joins our 5 human children, her canine siblings Clyde, Snooper, and Wilson, and her feline siblings Grey (a/k/a "Spike") Daisy (a/k/a "Gus") and Brouhita (a/k/a "Sam").

5 Kids. 4 Dogs. 3 Cats. I am truly losing (may already have lost) my mind. :innocent:

BTW -- Nell? My other half may be calling you for some advice on raising chickens (maybe those Frizzles) - for eggs only - she won't eat the chickens. :innocent:

And she asked me to inquire if anyone here raises goats. :blushing:

My parents used to have pigmy goats. They got them to hopefully eat the kudzu around here but wouldn't touch it so they just ended up as pets. They broke out of their pens soo much we just let them run wild. Made the hugest mess and tore up anything they wanted. I wouldn't have them again.

We had goats when the Ex and I lived in Ky. about 15 years ago ( Ex wanted them) they were supposed to be milk goats! NO MILK just bad attitude and worse smell! Couldn't keep them penned male would smash through the gate. If I had a choice now Goats or a case of poison Ivy???? Pass the jewelweed please!!

Compared to what I saw on the streets in the big cities that would be mild. It's nuts!

Nope. Why don't you grow a beard, videotape yourself re-enacting that goat behavior, and post the video here so I can see how they do it? :innocent:

Ken,tell her to call Tuesday,thats the only day I am off till Saturday,told them I am losing my phone,and not to call me.

I raise goats as well,mostly Boers,but plan on getting a milk goat or 2 so I can make goat soaps and lotion,I already make homemade laundry soap,so why not go all the way and make all the household soaps,eh??

Nell, we're surrounded by farms, orchards, vineyards, dairys, roadside egg stands, you name it. Besides, I already have enough poop to clean up in the yard. :blushing:

What kinda' geese? Some of them things can be nasty. I had one that kept coming at me when I was fishing a couple of years back.

I got that part, I'm just wondering if they'll attack anyone they may not know or see that often, like my Mom, or.............. :innocent:

As you know , Ken I have chickens(my girls) and yes they are pets as much as for eggs, but they're very good at eating garden pests. My oldest girl is 5 and still lays 3-5 eggs a week the other 3 are 18mths and lay 6 a week each. As Nell said fresh eggs can't be beaten.
I used to keep milking goats too.
Mrs Ken is welcome to contact me anytime.

i know the feeling, next week we get dog number 4 another whippet for our 8 yr old whippet she just overpowers the poodle x's too fast for them, can't say i am overly thrilled about this with all the other critters we have here and me not working, as it is my food and health care costs me about 10,000 a year for animals i don't get to eat

LOL, I hear ya, the are currently 4 labs residing here, and a 6 week old baby.
DW and I are temporary guardians, waiting for our out of state daughter and SIL, to adopt.
Dogs think the baby is theirs, when it cries, they come to you with the old "hey y'all know the people puppy it crying , right?"

The dogs are easy compaired to a kid, been 36 years.......

I always been a sucker for "rescue" type dogs, but backed off of cats, the last one lasted 27 years, for a "tempory home".

The "pack mentality" was at its peak last night. Come bedtime, all 4 of them were at the bedroom door. Lola has been acting like our shadow since she arrived, and the other 3 weren't about to stay away, either. I'll tell ya', there's nothing like trying to get some sleep with a Basset Hound, two Beagles, and a Yellow Lab all snoring away and jumping on and off the bed all night......... :blushing:

I have 5 dogs, 5 cats (3 live here, two are kittens looking for homes - rescued throwaways). We had a chicken but it ran away.
I will NEVER have geese - they are the work of Satan himself. Bad childhood incidents. Used to have milk goats - nubian and La Mancha. Manchas are better if you have puppies - no ears to chew on. Nubians tend to be noisy. Had them held in 4' no-climb fencing with ties on the bottom - they'll crawl thru if they can. Keep bucks separated from lactating females of the smell can get into the milk.

Something like that. Never heard of a chicken running away before - but off he went, crowing the whole way. I was SO happy he was gone. Kept laying in the vegetable garden eating everything.

We have a basset mix, and yes, they are aweful tall when they want to be :alien:
