so i've been trying some traps here at the house, and on my 2nd attempt i got a working figure 4. i know i can make a better one, but this one does work. i also only used my swiss army knife to make it, so i know i can make one if i have my survival kit with me.

nah i just made it like 30 minutes before i posted. i live in town so i would probably ether catch one of my dogs or the neighbor's cat. i just built it for the sake of gaining knowledge. i will however take it with me the next time i go camping.

i made it in the garage and swept up real quick :tongue_smilie:
when she came in and saw it she just rolled her eyes and laughed at me.
Nice job. One more trick in the book of knowledge.
Here's an assortment of triggers you can try.

Looks good, those can be tricky to cut right.

yes, they can be kinda tricky, and you need to use good hardwood. these are red-tip bush limbs. need to be pretty thick too to hold up the rocks, I've broken quite a few. the top rock is easily 75 pounds... the bottom one I'd guess about 50 lbs.
what I like about them is they collapse away from the falling rock (except the trigger sticks) so they don't get snapped by it.

Square off the center brace, square off the trigger. Will hold better & trip faster.

i tried to square them up. they are "beginner square". i did square them up good at the trigger/main stick junction.
