I watched a segment of Bizarre Foods this evening and they actually covered wild edibles!!! It wasn't a bad piece at all. The segment is about Maine and they went out and gathered some wild plants including Stinging Nettle, Ramps, Cattails along with some others. Then they cooked up some Stinging Nettle soup and made a nice salad. Who knows, we may make prime time yet!!

It looks like the next Maine segment airs:

September 8 at 9 a.m. ET

and again on...

September 8 at 5 p.m. ET

On the Travel Channel

Hope - before you ask - two things.

2) Yes, Maine is in America.

wow you can eat stinging nettle? we have a bunch of that over here. im guessing that it has to be boiled in order to be edible right?

yeah, nettle is good. any exposure to heat will wilt it, and the needles are the first part to wilt.

they are great steamed, boiled, and even better if you can add some butter, sauteed onions, animal pieces, etc.
