Here’s a little fungus stove that was inspired by Erunkiswldrnssurvival (Gene). A small section was hollowed out, about one ounce of cooking oil added, a small piece of the fungus to act as a wick was added. The oil quickly soaked into the fungus. The wick made it easy to light. I blew it out after about seventeen minutes, although it would have burned much longer. If you don't feel like carrying a stove on your trip, this might be an option for you.

There really isn't anything to making one. Gene is always showing us his oil lamps and stoves, so I thought I'd try it. In the past I've sliced some of the fungus into sliveres - maybe two inches long and one quarter inch wide. Set it in gravel (in small container), add vegetable oil and burn it like a candle. Depending on the size of the "wick" you can cook a small meal with it.

Probably from breathing the fumes of your fungus stove.

Not sure what burning the fungus gives off. It had the consistency of cork. The vegetable oil shouldn't be an issue.

Its a heckuva idea, either way. I'm sure it would be best to treat it like any burning material, plenty of fresh air.
