Batteries for Solar and Backup systems

I work for an industrial battery manufacture. I beleive we make the best battery available. Guess I can't post a link here. But something to consider about batteries...The batteries you buy at wally world and auto parts houses are inferior to those used in industrial applications. If anyone is serious about some real batteries you can PM me. I am speaking of batteries used in electric forklifts, cell towers, railroad crossings, Navy ships, even power wheels.

I don't think there would be a problem listing the company you work for. It's not as if you are selling the batteries right? It would be like somebody being an employee of Gander Mountain and letting us know that they carried sporting goods.

Alrighty then! Thanks Crash....Here it is! The reserve power applications will probably be of the most interest to ya'll. We also sell the Odyssey line which is your equiv. deep cycle or marine. We also have the Diehard contract with Sears for your automotive needs. I am not a sales rep. just a Quality Manager and Engineer for now 20yrs. I really do believe we make a battery that has no equivalent. I can provide answers to most any question about our line of products though, even if I have to call up the design group. I won't mind doing it.

I can't remember what we paid for em, but they were big....and there were a lot of em.

If it was inside of 20 yrs. I made the steel case, I used to be a fabricator. Should have been grey colored steel cases with a long narrow profile and it bolted to the floor on either end. Neat if you actually saw my work...small world.

Don't know if it was your work or not, but I've been through a few battery change-outs. Each cell was about six feet tall and weighed a lot.

Not during a battery change out, but during a test of one of the electrical panels in the engine room (saw the video and that was plenty close for me).

I use Forklift batteries in my solar system and I have a few auxualary banks hooked to small wind generators using Golf Cart Batteries.

I'll send a PM later to get some information.

Also, despite what OtherPower and places like that tell you, you can always figure a way to charge batteries, but the battery is the heart of an off grid system.

A friend of mine uses batteries from motorized wheel chairs that he gets from a friend of his. With a rather small solar panel, 18" x 36", they hold a charge real well. I'm sure these types of batteries must be of a quality construction. Many service centers change them out of the wheel chairs long before they're at the end of their life cycle. You can pick them up for the price of scrap.

Like Peter someday I want to have an array of fork lift batteries for my off-grid system. For now all that goes along with the batteries is too much $ especially since our electric bill never seems to get out of $5x.xx a month.
