There's a really nice post about Pemmican, but what about other rations that have a long shelf life? I know the focus here is more short term, but the ability to make food that you can carry with you for some time can be vital in a longer scenario.
I'm looking for recipes and ideas for jerky (I got this pretty much down but some here might not), hardtack (I like it believe it or not), salt pork (again, I got it but others might not), and any other kind of food that can be prepared using pretty much basic tools and methods. Salt fish maybe? Dried fish?
Not looking for "canning" recipes much, I can do that too but the glass Mason/Kerr jars are too fragile for my taste. I'm looking for stuff that will live in a backpack and might get dropped!
All tips, ideas, recipes, and other input appreciated.

don't forget pasta. semolina products for example are a good source of carbohydrates and protein.
