I've been looking to transform my BOB into something that's both easy to carry if I'm on foot and something that I could fly with if evac'ing out of state were the best option and these travel packs keep popping up on my radar. They have full backpack harnesses, but they have a flap or pocket that tucks it all away when you travel (so straps don't get caught in the airport equipment). This (http://www.travelcountry.com/shop/backpacking-hiking-gear/travel-backpacks/osprey-packs-porter-90-travel-pack.html) particular one is 5,500 cu.in., which is about the size of my current BOB (a duffel) and bigger than my backpack.

I'd probably have a detatchable bag with it that includes the non-airplane friendly stuff (i.e. ammunition, guns, flares or anything else that doesn't fly without extra paperwork/at all).

Thoughts?

I just toss my BOB in a fliers kit bag, In fact, that is where it lives along with a full set of clothes. That is because i live in earthquake country and when I grab my bag toget the heck out of the house before it falls on me, I just might be in only my undies! My bag is just over 5000 cu in

My Alice Pack lives in a parachute bag along with a few other items. I figure if I land in a shelter some place the bag helps keep everything together. If I have to hike it then I'll just discard the bag. But it does offer some options.

I have an older MEI Travel pack that I use. It's called the clipper, is 5500 CI with the zip on day pack. My daily is a Kelty redwing.
