Another thread has been discussing the options for the very popular Ruger 10/22.
All sorts of stock, barrel, trigger kits, bump-fire, magazines are available.

So, guys, here is a place to bring them up.
As I do have a few, my favorite to date (wish list?) is this one:

Gotta love this little tool..............

the 10/22 is highly over rated, there are cheaper and better semi auto .22's out there.

Hunter63, Is that thing for bringing down very small aircraft and pigions?:) It sure does look like alot of fun. Might have to try one out myself one day. Watch out zombie squirels!

Now that's funny! Read the reviews...

I disagree about how overrated they are. It's a great little .22 rifle and having a removable magazine and tons of aftermarket products for it is great for tinkering. I think it;s a little silly to dress it up like an assault rifle, but I have found this to be quite useful

Ok I posted back on the other thread. I am willing to consider this mostly because I have seen some suggestions from a few I respect on here. I wanna know what the ammo costs. Not down to the penny but in general.

Let me guess. You bought some cheap a$$ Savage or Stevens 22 from Walmart and now you really wish you would have gotten off the $$ for a real 10/22. Next you'll be trying to convice us that the earth is flat and that your piece of sh*t .22 is better than a 10/22. There are definately cheaper ones out there but NOT better Pal. It is definately more accurate than need be out the box and it's reliability is the standard by which other companies try to make their semi's. There are plenty of aftermarket stuff for them also. I wonder why you don't see any other semi auto .22's in smallbore competition. Oh that's right, because it is over rated and there are so many better ones to be had. I've got some advise for ya....Think before you type puke all over the internet. It really makes you look incredulous. :smash:

Cowboy, Most 10/22's shoot regular old .22LR ammo. They are also made in .22 magnum and in the hot little .17 cal. The .22 mag and .17 cal rimfires cost a good bit more than LR. Try "Natchez" or "Cheaper Than Dirt" for some decent ammo prices. I hope that answers your question.

Thanks Glock! I had no idea it was the same ammo... So what makes it more of a gun than the .22 lever action I was considering. Is it that it is a semi-auto? I was considering a Henry lever action in cas4e you didn't know. Then it was suggested I consider 10/22 so I am but not sure what the advantage is.

10/22 is an autoloader with a 10 round rotary "box" magazine. You can stick 2 more mags in each front pocket of your jeans. It is easy to breakdown and clean, a joy to fire, pretty darn accurate for a .22LR, and eatrs most ammo without a pause.

That little Henry Levergun is very nice too, btw. But it's a tube magazine so every reload is putting them in the hole 1 at a time.

OK I looked it up...so Isee it is the semi auto or fully auto mods and the magazine. Is 10/22 a Ruger only or are there other brands.

The 10/22 is not more of a gun, it is just that the 10/22 is the most reliable semi auto .22 out there. The Winchester 9422 (now out of production) and the Marlin 39 are just as high in quality just comes in lever form. They are more expensive and very accurate. I used to own one of each and I highly recommend either if you want a lever. If you want a semi auto get the 10/22. Don't over look the Henry .22 levers. They are alot of gun for the money. In the same ballpark price wise as a standard blue finish 10/22. I still have one of the Henry's and it is great....just not quit as high in quality as the Win or Marlin.

Ruger only. There are some custom shops offering the same gun as a knock off but they are not called "10/22". They will also cost as much as 3 or 4 standard Ruger 10/22's with tighter tolerances and fancy stocks. Sort of like custom shops offering gussied up bolt guns that are $2000.00 on up but they are essentially Rem 700 or Win model 70 designs. Another example would be Less Bauer 1911 compared to a standard Colt 1911 GI model. Talk to Ya'll later.....Off to cut grass on the ole tractor.

The 10-22 is the prefered .22 rifle for a number of reasons. Reliability being #1, then there is ease of maintenance, and adapatability(all the goodies you can throw on or in it!
As to modifications (I have a lot of experience with this as I have modified about a dozen or so 10-22s, my 3 and friends)
#1 mod. TRIGGER: Get the volquartsen trigger group kit and install it (make sure you get the one with the target trigger w/overstop screw.
#2 mod. BARREL: I use the volquartsen carbonfiber tensioned barrel. It is a light weight bull barrel configuration. You can get it with or without the muzzle brake.
#3 mod. STOCK: You pick you choose what fits your need or desire here. i have the Hogue overmold stock. I am looking at making my own P-90 style stock(bullpup).
Optional mods: additional calibers, .22 short kit from volquartsen, .17M2 barrel w/ weighted bolt handle.
My second 10-22 is a dedicated .17M2 gun but I could easily convert it back to .22lr in about 15 minutes or less.
Instead of Cabellas, check out Brownells for options!

One thing about any .22 gun, they can be finicky about the brand and type of ammo. My 10-22s don't like remington ammo nor do they like Winchester wildcat. They really like CCI, Ely and Federal.

Not that this is practical, but if you want to freak your neighbors out, this kit makes your 10-22 look like a MG-42! LOL (MG-42=WW2 German machine gun)

That's strange. A friend and I both like the Remington gold. (Or is it "golden"?)
In my 10-22 (wal-mart special) and in his 10-22(bull barrel, lam. stock.) the Remington's shoot very much like the CCI's. I picked up some Winchester, when ammo was really scarce (I can't remember which ones.) and neither one of our guns liked it. No feed problems, but they just didn't group very well.

Here is another option, basically a factory modified 10/22 in pistol form.

Any body heard from Stony? I take the slander of the 10/22 to heart (not really but I am in love with it). This wonderful exterminator is my snapping turtle sniper for my pond. Man, can they ever reek havock on the yearling bass and bluegill...Not to mention hatchling ducks. I guess that the cat (or 10/22) got his tongue. "Cheaper and better".... grumble, grumble, grumble! I'd like to see him give up Crash's suggestion. Give us a list of the "Cheaper and better" ones. I just thought that all of us invertibrates could learn a thing or two from the "Omniscient One".:alien:

Well, all I know is that I LOVE my 10/22. And yeah, I dressed mine up. But I was GIVEN the folding assault stock.

GIVEN... not bought LOL.

I love my rifle. I have the stainless receiver and barrel and a beautiful maple stock.

I need to put it back on the wooden stock... so nice.

10/22 my favorite 22LR hands down. The only addition I made is a fixed 6X scope. I have an assault rifle, don't need a 22 assault rifle so with a narrow sling, extra mags and the scope that's it. To each his own, mine does what I want from a 22 rifle and I do believe I will use it more as I have over the years with the price of ammo.

I bought my first 10/22 for $129 in 1986 and probably put 10,000 rounds through it before it was stolen in 1996. In 2007 it was recovered in Wyoming and when I got it back it looked like it had sat behind the seat of a pick up truck without a case for those 11 missing years. It was filthy and banged up, but I've put another 1,000 rounds through it since then and it's as accurate as the day I bought it. Ruger puts together one heck of a great little gun. It certainly makes an appearance on my "if I could only grab X things on the way out the door" list.

Thanks for the tip Crash. He sounds like he should be ignored. I believe that is what is called a "troll", right? Remember, I'm really new on the forum scene. Cowboy, glad I could help out. If I were you and could scrape up the cash, I'd probably do my country a service and stimulate the economy through the gun industy. Buy a Ruger 10/22 AND a lever action. That way you won't have to wonder which one to get :). Now, Hmmmm....How to convince the wife? Get 'em while ya still can!

being the minimalist i am, i am down to 2 guns now... my glock 27 and my ruger 10/22. the only other rifle i would want/need is a rem 700 with a bull barrel and scope. but to say there is a better .22 cal semi auto... i would also like to know. it is the most customizable and reliable and is worth every penny. :m107:
