I don't know about burning it, but there are a few that made it for drinking.

Can you get isopropyl alcohol? Drug stores or pharmacies around here carry it. The 70% alcohol content will work, but the 90% alcohol content IMO works better.

How about the high octane stuff we make to drink? Personally I would consider it an insult to waste it. Surely you can go to a pharmacy and buy a few bottles, not great but it works. Even most after shave in an emergency will work. I have seen men get wasted on it so it should burn.

I agree, although there are some brands out there that I have tried that would have been better burned.
Maybe a cheap vodka?
A simple still can be made, from parts of a cheap chemistry set, but if your talking about making any amount, the cost size, energy used to make it, would be prohibitive. (IMHO, this would be entirely up to you, of course)
Also there may be problems with "officials"?
Anyway, my point is that maybe a alternate cooking/heating set-up would be in order?
P.S. fiund this from a old issue of Mother Earth News:

Can you get Ethanol?
Ethanol, also called ethyl alcohol, pure alcohol, grain alcohol, or drinking alcohol, is a volatile, flammable, colorless liquid. It is a psychoactive drug, best known as the type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages and in modern thermometers. Ethanol is one of the oldest recreational drugs. In common usage, it is often referred to simply as alcohol or spirits.
Everclear 151 Grain Alcohol works too.

If I made some, it would probably only be good for burning, but there are still some old guys, back in the hills, that make stuff that will make you swear you just had a sip of heaven!:innocent:

hydrous solutions of Isopropanol [say the 70% stuff] can be salted out with epsom to over 90%.
I was gonna say that. What? I was. Canid just beat me to it. I, uh, salt my epsoms to, well, what he said.
I think you folks call it "Surgical Spirit". Same stuff as rubbing alcohol. Burns really well. Not much fume. Add a bit of water to the mix and it will cut down on the soot.

if you take a bottle of 70% iso solution and add it to a jar with about 2 cups of epsom salts, the salts will adsorb the water, leaving a much purer solution of iso. for stove fuel, it's easier than fractional distillation, and poses no extra fire hazard in the kitchen, garage, etc.
Dang it! He did it again. I was this close to posting that.
