FIRE BALLS FOR FUEL.--

Mix one bushel of small coal or sawdust, or both, with two bushels of sand and one bushel and a half of clay, make the mixture into balls with water, and pile them in a dry place to harden them. A fire cannot be lighted with these balls, but when it burns strong put them on above the top bar, and they will keep up a strong heat.

You best quit reading that book. Remember they lost the war? Got a nice 8X10 roughly of my g grandpa, fought in the 14th KY Infantry Volunteers, lived to be 93 and outlived 3 wives, all half his age. Death certificate in 1923 said he died of weakness, wonder why?

fire balls have been around for a long long time. originating in china, a precursor of gun powder. with the addition of potasium nitrate(leeched chicken poo) and sulfur, the fire ball will explode

Thank you. I've made a note to stay away from leeched chicken poo.
