thinking again

well with all this extra time on my hands due to the strike and everyone one else loosing their jobs cuz of it, i have had the "opportunity" to spend some quiet alone time at the homestead and in the bush, thought of a few things
ol wareagle always loves a challenge an quite often gets bored(henseforth into trouble0 when his mind and body are not occupied, thats why i do all the carazy crap that i do (no need to repeat it ya'll have heard it all before) but what i realized is a couple of things, one- wilderness survival does not interst me much, i mean how many ways can you start a fire? been there done that, in the last 2 months it has rain almost evey single day and i still had no problem with fire and shelter, i don't see being lost as a problem only an opportunity and if i have followed procedure then rescue ain't far off anyhow no matter what time of year it is.
So how to challenge myself again, maybe the cage again, maybe a bull again...hmmm not sure
i do like emergency preparedness. I am more likely to be cuaght up in that than a wilderness survival situation and the unknown is always exciting
The only thing that has held the test of time is wild edibles. the challenge of finding, identifying and eating and preserving them just facinates me to no end.
so whats an eagle to do from here? don't quite know but it should be a heck of a ride, but one thing is for sure, wild edibles will always be number one in my life, just becuse they are so challenging, hope that never changes

So, Mr. Plumber, have you rigged up a solar hot water heater for your place? How about a solar hot water heating system? There's a couple of preparation challenges for you.

Here's a thought for anyone. A lot of us can garden foods. Can you can wild foods, too? I wonder if I could can some quarts of purslane? They are sort of like green beans. I don't think I've ever seen any instructions on canning wild edibles. There's another challenge for you.

Stop by more often. We have a lot of work that needs done around here.

first question- yes and no
no i have not rigged up solar yet
yes i am going to be learniing from a good freind of mine who is starting up his own solar company, going to a conference next week
second question, yes you can "can" wild edibles, the lady i am learning from has lots of edibles canned and dehydrated for the winter, most of what she eats and lives on are wild edibles

I'd be interested in any of her recipes that you want to post. Hot water bath vs. pressure canner, times, etc.

i have been taking meticulous notes when with her
she is very old school, no pressure canner or microwave nor tv evrything the same as back in the 40's its awesome
this is something that i hope now that i am unemployed to spend the next few months really picking her brain, like today i dried out my chanterelles just in the sun with a cross breeze, she has never even heard of a dehydrater it is awesome
her english is ok to speak but not for the written word evrything in german so that is where latin comes in. she shows me something in the feild then we look at the book i write down the latin name and then research it on my own, the next few months i will be posting only about the wild edibles
