One of the basic skills for survival, could be the ability to with NO warning, RUN like HELL was after you, not jog, but run wide a$$ open because your life depends on it. Can you even remember the last time you ran wide open...? Say a 220 or 440 yard sprint. Interesting the skills we choose to hone......and those we avoid........

Sadly, I'd not last very long, say 200 yds give or take. When I was in "peak"(for me at least) condition I ran up to 5 miles, maybe a little over, but that isn't the same kind of pace I think you are talking about here. I probably couldn't do much better then, as it was mostly the kind of running the military does, something like the "Airborne Shuffle".
BTW hope thanks for pointing out a weakness in my "plan", something I'll have to work on.

I don't know how long I would last but the terrain would probably make a huge difference especially to my knees. From zero to run like mad would be difficult if how I feel when I get out of a chair after a few minutes is any indication. I work out at the gym 3 times a week and I still feel old age creeping in before it should.
Yeah, right. I'm sure the adrenal would give me a nice jump start but it wouldn't last very long. It had better be a slow threat if I want to outrun it. I'm hoping for a man killer sloth or a carnivorous tortoise. That's really my only hope, Hope.

About 3 years ago, full battle rattle (vest, water ammo and weapon).Age 52, approx 100-150 meters, almost ran over some of the youngsters. We were getting clear of an ambush. In honesty, I was of very little use for 10-15 minutes after we stopped. And my knees and thighs burnt for most of the day. Could I replicate it on purpose? I doubt it, was pure adrenalin. And no, I was not the most graceful in form or function :)

Let's just say, that if I ever have to run away from a grizzly.....I hope Rick is with me.:innocent:
In my defense, I'm slowly starting to work on it. I've been taking less breaks, when cutting the grass, (push mower) and I haven't had a cigarette in 4 weeks...4 days....21hours......31 minutes.....
...not that I'm counting! LOL:tongue_smilie:
Outstanding, 2dumb!!! We knew you could do it. It's done! You've quit. Your only challenge now is to never pick one up again. Congrats!!!
Now....about outrunning me. I have been know to a wing a guy.....just sayin'.

I don't run nor walk quickly. That's why I am loaded with weapons but could make it....you were talking about how many feet weren't you? That yard & meter thingy was a typo right?

Awesome news about the Coffin Nails!!! Keep on trucking!
I run for the bus all the time with my EDC on... But that's not the same as running for my life. Besides, If I'm running for my life at home I will have a 10 year old with me. My plan is for him to run and me to shoot...

I know I could run for 2 blocks. I did it last summer when my son was lost.
I can run for two blocks, too. Just not all at once.

:hang::eek::angel:Clarification: For those who are thinking this involves shooting.......No, I am thinking people running for their life away from the collapsing World Trade Center. People running for their life from the Tsunami in Asia. People running From the field to the basement, and away from a tornado. People running for their life from a shooter the the bell tower who has killed 31 people. Civilians running for their life from approaching enemy helicopters. SORRY....NO SHOOTING.......Just run wide open or DIE. Maybe we should spend more time running, and less time rubbing sticks together....
No thank you. You know those goats that pass out when you scare them? I've been in the field practicing with them for a while. I've got it down pretty we

yo hope ,isn't that why we have chosen to live where we do, i look at the statistical chances of any of that happening here, and think to my self, what a wonderful world(dangit woman turn off the stereo)

It was pure fear. I was 49 at the time. I work at an elementary school and to get the student I was assigned to motivated in gym I ran laps with him. Darn near died.
