Typical news hype. Sells papers. Rabies has always been around.

Fact is, rabies occurs in all types of mammals and in many areas is always a threat. Some years the disease will run amuck in a local population - raccoons, bats, or other animals.

That is true. skunks are usually top of the list in my parts. But with most other animals you can kinda tell if there sick or rabid not so with a bat (unless there is some tell tale signs with bats I don't know of) so to me thats kinda scary giving the amount of bats in my area as of lately

One of the main signs a bat is rabid is if it flies around in the daytime. Also, sometimes they will just flop around on the ground. Last night village I live in looked like Transylvania, there were so many bats flying around.

I am personally thankful for the bats. They keep the mosquitos at bay. I also like snakes for keeping the rodent population under control, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna go petting a rattler.

I have never had a problem with bats, they do there thing and stay away from the house for the most part. snakes are free roaming around here and pretty much left alone, unless its a Rattler then they get recycled.
