Here is a picture of the machette I am working on, ( dr pepper can is there for a size referance) now that I have the basic shape ground out Im going to get it on the sander and finish up the detail work, im hoping this weekend.
This is also going to be my first attempt at doing a saw blade top on a knife.
If my camera stays working ill update as soon as I get it ready to temper.

Nice work. What did it do in its former life?

What kind of handles are you thinking of putting?

In its former life it was part of a semi trailer frame, Im thinking I am going to do the cordura/fiberglass scales ( cant think of the name of that stuff) Or I may do a ground up rubber/fiberglass scale.

Looks like it has been tested! Keep us posted, I have plans to make one out of a chainsaw bar. How thick is it?

And thanks to Crash and his nifty idea on the trash can sheath I figure that would be the perfect sheath for this blade.

That should be plenty of heft. I think mine is a bit thinner with the chainsaw bar. Nice design!

Cowboy what kind of chainsaw bar are you using. I have an old one from a echo chainsaw. I wonder if that one would work?

I was looking at the wild thing chain saw I have and it looked like the bar was in two pieces and spot welded together. maybe thats just that brand but if it is solid it measured just under 1/4 thick
So thats way thick enough. but this one is also the biggest wild thing model
Just out of curiosity, does the semi driver KNOW that part of the frame has been used for your machete?

Have you looked at this video by our own Mac. He has some good ideas for the machette and multiple uses of it. It's good stuff.

I would think any chainsaw bar will work and would have to be high carbon steel. I am not aware of the make of the one I am using I found it loose in a field on my property. It was an old farm and I have found several old tools. I don't think it is a 2 pc. laminate, I hope not. So far I am only as far as throwing it in a hardwood fire to anneal it. I haven't really looked it over good. I will post when I get started on that project. I need to finish my forge first.....
