So I was wondering for those of us on a budget these days, does anyone have a good suggestion on a tough reliable shotgun that wont break the bank?:gunsmilie:

I like the Mossberg 500. Big 5 usually has them on sale for about $160.00.

I've got both. Remington 870 and Mossberg 500. I lean just a bit toward the 870.

You didn't specify what type of shotgun you're looking for: Pump; Semi-auto; Double-barrel; Single-barrel; gauge? Because my state limits the amount of shells one can legally carry in the magazine, I prefer a 20 gauge single-barrel myself. Rossi makes some great models where you can change out barrels from a shotgun to a rifle in varying calibers; they're called match sets, check 'em out:

Enjoy! :cool2:

Chumps! Marverick 88. It the less expensive version of the Mossberg. All the Mossberg parts fit it.

Less expensive than free? In my case, anyway......

I'm with Rick. If you're looking for the cheapest, Mavrick 88. It's made by Mossberg and like Rick said, all the Moss. parts fit it.

I do prefer the Rem. 870 though.

Remy 870 express magnum. There are cheaper pump shotguns but my life is worth the few extra bucks for an ultra reliable Remy. It is time tested unlike some cheaper new commers. There is a reason L.E. Departments all over the country use it. It is BOMB PROOF and reasonably priced. They are really easy to fix yourself if something were to break; but don't worry IT WONT. The best pump out there IMO. Many aftermarket mods too but be careful...some are fad, gimmick, junk. As a foot note I have had the safety switch come loose which resulted in loss on two seperate Moss 500's. If you get a Moss 500 take the safety switch off ASAP and blue locktite it in place. Best

Go with the 870 if for no other reason than re-sale value.

I think that the NEF pardner is a great shotgun. It is single shot built like a tank, only downfall is it kicks like one too. Outside that you can get one for about 100 bucks and is great as a survival, truck, camp gun as it does not have the tactical look at all and being a single shot has less moving parts to fail out in the wilderness.

...it's like asking this group "what's a good knife?" 50 members give 50 different answers; good luck! :cool2:

I prefer the mossberg 500. the 870 is a good gun but I just did not like the feel of it. Nothing wrong with it just personal opinion. I also like the safety location on the mossberg as opposed to the 870.

1+ on the NEF Partner... great little 12 guage pump...

Rem 870 or Mossy 500 if you have the $$$... actually the NEF Partner is a clone of the 870 and is owned by Remington too...
