Camping July 18 & 19

Decided to take the Family (wife & dog) out to Hatchers Pass this past weekend. Tried out our truck camper and it worked great. Not exactly survival but my wife did start the fire using her magnesium fire starter. However it blew out soon after because it was really windy. Had to stack up some rocks to give it a decent wind break. Also did some exploring as well.

Yeah we wore him out. Playing in the creek, hiking up the mountain and all really wore him out. After we got home Sunday all he did was sleep. What a pansy.... :)

We had a bunch of kids at the house yesterday. Our Yellow Lab, "Wilson", a/k/a "Wilbur", is addicted to retrieving tennis balls. (We only use "Wilson" tennis balls - of course.)

He'd chase the ball for 10 minutes and lie down in his wading pool for 5. Then he'd chase for 10 more minutes. And so on. This went on for about 5 hours. He slept about 12 hours straight afterwards.

Got here last July, so 1 year exactly. 2 more to go then off to the lower 48. Anchorage is ok, but I hate Cities. I'm a farm boy and crowds bother me. But I live and work on Base so I don't go downtown much. Last week we had a moose walk right by our front window and stepped all over my wifes flowers. And I can't count how many times, while working, I walk up on a black bear or moose. Still never gets old and the "pucker" factor is always there. :) Very beautiful place and very unique but I'll be glad to leave.
