I am in Michigan and would like to get familiar with the laws regarding buying ammo. I would like to go to a sports store (not a big box store) and buy a box of .22 ammo. Do I simply present my ID at the cash regsiter and I'm good to go?

I haven't bought ammo in 20 years. I don't think my 20 year old .22 ammo will be good.

EDIT: I'd like to get some low-powered 22 ammo but darned if I can remember what they're called. For squirrels ya know. Perhaps 22 SB, is that what they're called? The ones that don't make much noise.

You just go in and buy it. You may have to present ID if you appear under 18. I have 20 year old .22 shells and they shoot fine. Mine were kept dry and at room temp. 22 shorts? is that what you mean? There's only 22 short, long and long rifle that I'm aware of.

Just go in and buy it... if you look young they will card for age. If you have 20yr/.22 then you probably have ammo near the age of the guys working there :innocent:

The quiet ones are .22 CB's and they come in short or long (not long rifle). Your 20 year old ammo will most likely fire like the day it was made. As long as it looks good you should be fine. Mac

CBs are the ones I was thinking about. My old 22 ammo looks fine. It's been indoors this whole time. The case is a little tarnished but just a little.

Thanks for the help guys.
