anyone have any tips/suggestions? im going to make the blade 6 inches and the handle 3 the blades back end will be thicker for hammering on it :innocent: sooo i am going to need tempering tips

I do believe you are wasting space. Use the search function or Google knife making and anything else you want to know then ask an intelligent question about an explanation of an individual step and don't generalize. I wasn't going to bother but since you might, just might be legit I will "offer" this advice, advice only. You can do what you wish.

Look at these tutorials, but the "50 Dollar Knife shop" book as a good starting point. I would suggest using 1080 steel to start off with. You can't make a knife out of any old stell...well at least not a good reliable one. Look over the link in this thread:

Since you specify that you are making a metal knife - what types of knives have you made in the past?

Get a piece of carbon steel and grind off everything that doesn't look like a knife.:smartass::smartass:
By the way a 3 inch handle may be a little tricky to hang on to unless your hands are very small :tongue_smilie:
What do you intend to "hammer" with this knife???
