Anyone ever make a pond?
I have an area which I believe to be about 75ft between two mountains I was thinking about digging a pond. I can make it as long as I'd want (ok not as long as ANYTHING, but as long as I would want). I am thinking about making it roughly 30ftx30ftx4ft which would give enough room between the mountains to drive an ATV, plant stuff, prevent erosion / filling of the pond, etc.
The area I mention interests me because it gets a seasonal creek and has a 4' deep x 8' seasonal pond "naturally made" as well as a few other shallower and narrower seasonal ponds. When it rains or snows it flows through this entire area to a drain that goes under the street, and then to someone else's lake. (Since it's at the foot of two mountains it gets great runoff.)
I don't want to build a dam to keep all the water and have to deal with anything like that just a hole/pond so that overflow would still run down away w/no chance of rupture causing any problems with other property or the road.
I have a second well at the top of the other mountain (not the one my house is on) that I have debated having checked out for depth, water availability, etc, because during summer I know I will need to feed my pond daily to keep it full.
So, anyone have pond building information? I've already cleared some of the trees for firewood next year but plan to clear it 100% and get a tractor in here soon to start moving the dirt. (Dirt will be moved few hundred feet away toward the road with drainage pipes under to let the water out.)
PS: Sorry for rambling :innocent:
