Another sad story. 70 year old man missing in the mountains. Looks like the family waited 7 days to report he was missing.......

Well, jeeese. I guess that's why we leave detailed plans with a RESPONSIBLE party.

You are right Rick, a RESPONSIBLE party. It is readily obvious it was not his family. A shame, looks like he was a good guy.

A very sad story. I've been on many searches and several body recoveries that started as a "day hike". It sounds like this guy had some experience. It just doesn't take that much - a little slip on wet rock - losing your bearing and heading down the wrong direction. I sometimes feel a bit silly when I think about all of the crap I may never use in my day pack but as everyone is fond of saying, "it sucks to not have it when you need it".

This is also a cautionary tale to those that hike alone and don't leave specific information on where you're going and when to alert someone if you don't return. So many of us enjoy the solitude but having someone know where to look for you and getting SAR teams in the field immediately can make all of the difference.

Buddy has 16 years on me ......I'd gladly carry the moniker whipper snapper but I have to many days that it just doesn't fit.:)

Okay then. We'll just call you snapper since the whipper doesn't fit.
