Even though he wasn't totally prepared for what he encountered, with some training and some good gear, he made it out alive.

And no mention of a trail map, compass, or GPS...... :sneaky2: But at least he filed a detailed itinerary with the local rangers. :thumbup1:

Kid seemed to have a dose of common sense. Smart enough to sit still until things improved a bit.
Good to see a happy ending for a change. Just goes to show you even if you do it right it can still go bad.

He demonstrated very good discipline, didn't panic and stayed put for four days. Many people couldn't do that, after two days they might try to walk out. I wouldn't recommend going out without a compass but in this case it may of saved his life. He might of tried to walk out in the fog if he had one. That would of been a bad move.
