So I have a very cool Mora 780 Triflex knife. LOVE IT... (Mainly because I can do what I am about ask about!)
I read an article where a gentleman had ground the back of his blade, what I would call the spine, to a 90 degree flat angle. This was done so that the back of the blade could produce a really nice spark on a Firesteel.
I dont have a bench grinder, but could I do this with a file? Or maybe a Dremel tool?
I don't know why not. The outer sides are lower carbon steel than the center. That makes the sides a bit tougher than the center. If you grind it, I'd just keep it as cool as possible. I don't know whether heat would de-laminate the metal or not.

Yep - you can. As Rick said if you use a power tool, keep it cool by dipping it in water every 5 - 10 seconds.

Probably just a few minutes. I would use a less aggresive flat smooth file.
