I was watching History Channel last night and they had several shows pertaining to 2012. One of the theories is that there will be a realignment of the poles when everything lines up with the center of the universe. What that means to us is that the earths mantle will shift or spin. This could cause the Calderas to erupt as well as all the volcanos, it would also put a great strain on all fault lines. And lastly the earths crust would shift as a whole in relation to the present day rotation. Then again it could be Y2K all over again.
Kinda' depressing, ain't it?
You just had to mention that year, didn't you? Didn't you? I knew it was getting too quiet around here.

There have been more theories about the world coming to an end than there are years on calendar. Most physicists have stated this whole alignment thing will affect nothing at all. And if it does then why worry about it?
Well, just to be on the safe side, I'm gonna' "buy" that 80' yacht I've always wanted but could never afford in my wildest dreams. I'll be back just as soon as I swipe a few identities. Takes about 3 years to prosecute those cases, so the timing should be perfect. :innocent:

Dec 24 2012 is just another date. It's the end of the Maya calendar, and the beginning of a new "big turn" or something like that. The world doesn't end every jan 1, does it? Nope because Jan 1 is an arbitrary date in an arbitrary calendrical system. The Mayan calendar is just based on astronomical events, like the several thousand year precession of the north pole.
My entertainment will be watching everyone else go crazy. Get out of stocks before Dec 2012 though.
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayan_calendar:
"The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar forms the basis for a New Age belief, first forecast by José Argüelles, that a cataclysm will take place on or about December 21, 2012, a forecast that mainstream Mayanist scholars consider a misinterpretation, yet is commonly referenced in pop-culture media as the 2012 problem."
and
"For example, Sandra Noble, executive director of the Mesoamerican research organization FAMSI, notes that "[f]or the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle". However, she considers the portrayal of December 2012 as a doomsday or cosmic-shift event to be "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in."

Yeah the whole "world ending on the year 2012" is based on the Mayan calender; so they even made a movie about it hoping it's not true as they won't enjoy all of the cash they're going to rake in. So what do we know about the Mayans? (The people, not the....whatever.:alien:) Not much, they were very primitive, didnt know beans about how to make indoor plumbing, automobiles, electricity, penicillin, wore really weird outfits & we trust them to make really great calenders that accurately predict the end of the world? C'mon, how many Mayans does it take to screw in a light bulb? Answer: NONE! They never had electricity! :innocent::sneaky2::cool2:

here's my take on the 2012 mayan calendar. There's been enough speculation and ranting about the world ending on this day simply because the calendar ends.
well, the mayan calendar was based on a 46,000 year (of our years) cycle. It is true the earth's tilt slowly changes between something like 18 and 23 degrees over the course of a LONG time. this is similar to the way Native American's calendar was based on Moons, but the Lunar calendar had 13 months.
what happened when their calendar ran out?
what happens every year when our calendars run out?
same thing is gonna happen.
apparently it takes 46k years+/- to go around the galaxy and in the process the earth's tilt changes slightly.
after Dec. 21, 2012, there will be....
Dec.22, 2012.
There's no need to worry, just go back to the beginning of the mayan calendar and start counting down again. I doubt we get to see any new stars, but what the heck, I like the view ;)
I'll see you guys on 12-22-09 (or as soon as I get out of the woods with that huge buck)
I never buy into such far fetched propaganda. If people would just think for themselves nobody would get exploited like this.

OK, maybe not the end of the world, but the end of the world as we know it.
I can see things being different, by the end of December 2012. Think about what is going to happen in November of 2012. No matter which way it goes, a lot of people are going to be ticked off. (The pitchforks could come out.)
I hope it doesn't, but I can see things getting ugly, around that time.

Oops...sorry about that, Winnie. I wasn't thinking, again.
November 2012 is our (American) next Presidential election. I have a feeling that whether Obama is re-elected or not, one side is going to say that there is no way that could happen.
I hope that the election doesn't stir up a lot of trouble, and it probably won't....but then again, I've seen things happen , over the past couple of years, that I never thought I would see.
It is true the earth's tilt slowly changes between something like 18 and 23 degrees over the course of a LONG time.
As luck would have it, I also tilt something like 18 and 23 degrees over the course of a LONG time. Fortunately, in the opposite direction of the earth. That's probably the only thing that keeps me upright.

The week will fall, the strong will thrive, evil will attempt to overthrow good, but in the end good will prevail. It will be a second chance for mankind forcing us to start from scratch. This world has transformed into something pathetic and I for 1 welcome 2012. it will be the rebirth of a new way of living. I will be prepared and ready "if it happens"...

I have been trying to figure this 2012 stuff. Seems to be a bunch of silliness. I have a difficult time accepting the word of some folks that don't even have a real job (not referring to members of the forum) that spend their time spinning yarns based on their interpretations of "stuff". Heck if they were that good reading the tea leaves, wouldn't they be millionaires? Worrying about it is almost as important (in my mind) as preparing for a "pink rabbit" invasion. I guess in 2012, I will vote, tend to my yard, vacation, just as I have over the last half century or so. So other than for entertainment value, there is no 2012 issue for me

Everyone seems to be picking fun at my post....
Id just like to clarify something. I didn't say I am a hardcore believer that 2012 is going to be as accurate of an occurrence as the text predicts. And all those thoughts I added in were merely what I deciphered from the text. For all we know it will be another Y2K.
But for as the current world events that have been plaguing our television, especially the events taking place in our own country, unfolding day by day, I don't think any of us can deny that something bad is not in our near future.
Isn't that what the whole mind set of a survivalist should be?.......preparing for something, training, gathering gear and testing it out, all in preparation for that worst case scenario?? So that above anything else, he WILL survive... I'm sure we all agree, its better to prepare for the worst case scenario that never comes, than not be prepared for the worst case scenario that we all say would never come and does...
Whether it be 2012, 2013,2014,2015........or 2020...
I know that I WILL survive.......
