I touted the cleaning benefits of baking soda in another thread so I thought I'd offer up some wilderness uses. This is truly wonderful multi-use stuff!!!!

Foot Powder
Toothpaste
Antacid - 1/2 teaspoon in a cup of water
Insect Bites - Mix baking soda with a small amount of water to make a paste. Apply the past to the bite. Don't apply too much because it will dry and fall off. A small amount will only crack but stay on the skin.
Eliminate Odor - You can use it as a deoderant or on coolers or other food containers. You can wash your hands with soda after cleaning animals or fish to remove any lingering odor. To avoid having a stale odor in canteens and water bladders, sprinkle some baking soda in them before you store them.
First Aid - You can use baking soda to help cool hot spots and reduce friction where ever clothing is rubbing. It will help control moisture which could lead to bacteria or fungal infections.
Shampoo - It will help clean the scalp and hair if used as a shampoo.
Fire Extinguisher - Baking soda will smother a fire.
Clean Pots and Pans - Since baking soda can be used as a mild abrasive, it does a great job scrubbing pots and pans. A plus...it's environmentally friendly.

What's not to like about baking soda?
