I have been reading 2 great true survival stories. A Rock and a Hard Place by Aron Ralston and Bat-21. The first one is the autobiography of the guy who got his arm caught under a rock while hiking in desert and amputated his own arm. He had many exciting outdoor adventures also besides this. Bat-21 is story of US flier who was shot down in Vietnam and how he survived.
Aaron Ralston is pretty well know here in the States. It is an incredible story. BAT 21 was made into a movie with Gene Hackman in the late '80s. Good flick. Good story.

Aaron Ralston to me is the typical dumbass who survived his stupidity and is noe thought of as a hero. IF he hadn't changed his plans, IF he had told someone when he did change his plans, If he hadn't done any of a number of stupid things he would still be in one piece.
BAT21 is a different story, he didn't have a choice and did what he had to.
