I really like yurts as a semi /permanent shelter. I would hate to have to haul one around on my back though.

True. As an off grid, made at home before you go shelter, it would be hard to beat. It would be easier to move than a tepee.

I guess what I like about the yurt is : With wood, reed or bamboo and cordage you have a load bearing frame. Add a covering of skins, fabric or vegetation and you have a semi -permanent structure. It can also be insulated and heated with wood.
Above all ,this is just knowledge to put in your back pocket. To be used and adapted to your needs.
