I'm not sure what I bought or how I got on their subscription list, but I've been getting copies of Backpacker and Outside Magazines for a few months. Maybe it's a promotional thing to get you to subscribe? I like Backpacker, but I don't particularly care for Outside.

Once a year Backpacker has a "Survival" issue. The "off-the-rack" price is about $5 so there's your "break-even" point! :cool2:
