Karl, there are a few suggestions that we can ignore in the article - like boiling water for 10 minutes. But some of the other stuff can be useful.

At college in the fall, I didn't have an electric blanket. During the fall, the maintenance dept waited a few weeks before turning on the heat, so we had a few weeks where we were quite cold at night. We had bunk beds and I favored the top bunk. I would use push pins to pin up a blanket to the ceiling, all around the bed, thus conserving my heat at night. It worked great.

I was surprised that pushpins managed to hold up that heavy blanket. The ceiling was like a drop ceiling, but nailed to the studs. I.e. it was made of the same material as a drop ceiling, like masonite or cardboard.

You can camp outdoors in the spring, summer, or fall. Don't camp outdoors in the winter if it is avoidable. There is almost no food available, and the weather is so cold that you will probably freeze to death.
I disagree. Modern sleeping bags are good down to 0 degrees F or lower. Depends on the type of sleeping bag you have.

I am a human radiator. I run hotter than most people. I had my best luck with the opposite sex in the Fall and Winter. They used to call me their electric teddy bear.LOL
Most of the stuff on that page was information I was raised with. It gives me a comforting feeling to know that.

This is a good article with some good advice.
I myself would never try to go to a shelter when TSHTF.
You are going to be putting yourself (or others with you) in danger!(Superdome-New Orleans-Katrina)There will be people there that are not pleasant during the best of times.
And depending on your government being there to help you in a time of a National Crisis is scary.
You would be better off with a small group of individuals that have some basic camping knowledge.

Crikey! I must have been raised in hard times then! apart from the ablutions bit and surviving on wild foods, that pretty much sums up my early childhood.
