Field and stream has a project that I will soon try out. It is a paracord rifle sling. I have the swivels and the cord. I am thinking I could take it one more step and add a magnesium fire starter and a whistle. buy the time I finish it I should have a digital camera and I will put it on here.

Jeff - Hopefully they have the instructions included in the article. I made one for my Ruger 10/22. I don't remember how many feet of paracord I used. It's been too long. 47 feet, maybe? Something like that. They are a bit of a pain because the ends of the braids are so dang long. But they are durable once you finish and you will have a lot of paracord should you need it.

Here's a couple that I made. The longer one has over 100 feet of paracord in it (a bit long for a sling, but can be shortened).

Yeah I tried to make one at work but it didn't end up working out. Tonight I will try it again at home.

That's because you were keeping one eye out for the boss. You have to use both eyes when you braid.

Now I should have thought of that. One of you crafty folks tell me how to estimate the length of the cord I will need for a 10/22 sling. I have a simple strap on it now so I would like to make one the same length and don't want enough cord out to get the dog tangled up in it. "Attack" beagles are toothy when mad.

Coot - If you use something like a Cobra stitch you'll be in the 40 foot realm. If you use a King Cobra stitch then you'll need to double that. I made mine last year some time and the old brain cells keep falling out of my ears. I should have written down how much I used but didn't. As I said I think I used 47 feet. I stayed with a Cobra stitch because the 10/22 is a relatively small weapon and I thought a more narrow sling would work better. The King Cobra stitch will be twice as wide.

EDIT: I found a couple of videos for you. Two different styles. I've made the first one. It's really quick and easy to make. I didn't make it for a sling by just to truss up some cord.

Thanks Rick, will give it a try when I can get a chance. I've been extra busy the last few weeks and haven't had a chance to do much.

You are retired. Extra busy? I walk around and say, "That needs done and that needs done and I should do that." Then I look at my watch. "Would you look at the time? I'm late for a nap."

One Big difference. "YOU walk around and look, here the WIFE walks around and makes notes. After almost 45yrs she is the boss. I rebelled and the rebellion was shot down. Right now I have 11 ton of crushed concrete fill I need to spread and have to do it with a shovel so no naps for me.:smash:

My wife is still working so I have a reprieve. She just walks around to see what I've accomplished.

Here is a site that will keep you busy for days to come. http://stormdrane.blogspot.com/ This guy does some pretty awesome stuff.
Once you find a knot you like, just google it and you'll get pages of how to's. Or, just google paracord projects and away you go. Watch out, it gets addicting!! If I can figure out how to post pix, I'll post some of the stuff I have been working on.
