Yep. I have a Seal-a-Meal. I use it for everything from small packs of dry dog food in the pet BOBs, tea bags and most food in my pack (even coffee and tea bags) and I even use it for it's intended purpose of vaccuum sealing food prior to freezing.

One of the best uses for a seal-a-meal is vaccum sealing a firearm for long term storage.

Do y'all have a recommendation for any particular brand of vacuum sealer?

I'm also looking for a good food dehydrator....any recommendations there?

Tilia Seal-a-Meal. Just be careful not to tear the rubber gaskets, or the thing is useless unless you repair it properly.

MM - As far as I'm concerned the ONLY food dehydrator to buy is Excalibur. They aren't cheap but they are great. I have the 5 tray version, which is big enough for us. You'll want to control the temperature and you want a timer. The blower is in the back on the Excalibur so you don't have to constantly swap trays around for even drying. Just load it up, set your temp and time and forget about it. They are easy to clean, too, which you can't always say about the round ones.

Here is an article from Mother Earth News on how to choose one.

Use a vacuum sealer for most everything, especially when hitting water or mud on the ATV. Handy, and the bags are thick enough.

I've got one of those blanket size bags that you hook up to a vacuum. If something bad happens I'm going to climb inside and shrink me down to the size of a grapefruit. Then, after all the trouble passes, I'll just open the air valve and fluff myself up good as new.
