The kids have been asking me for the past couple days what kind of flower this is... I tried looking it up in my petersons field guide but couldn't find it... any ideas?

I think they are Muscari armeniacum. There are several kinds. Here is a link that may help.

yep, that's it, thanks for your help. from what I read they're also called grape hyacinth. While there are wild and water hyacinth listed in the field guide, I don't know if these can be prepared the same way... I will have to do some more research.

Thanks, I kind of lucked out. It looked like hyacinth so I googled hyacinth Blue cluster flowers and set the search for images. Found the image and looked for a site with good info.

Scooby By the way the bulbs are toxic. The flowers can be used like sugared violets and rose petals. More of a flavor then nutritional. Double check before you try anything.
